if you have Gigibit network and a draft n router then you can transfer software at 300mb/s or so

um..well..the card is compatible with A/G/B/N so w/the card you're pretty much good with whatever routers and stuff your college has..so it's a good reason to get the card =). plus it's future proof.

... maybe rich colleges like MIT? Some were too ambitious and upgraded to fiber ... LOL ... but most are on the 10/100 Meg network...

Pretty minor upgrade cost for a network card you won't have to replace for a billion years. Or so.

I have no idea... but your best bet is to call your college's ResNet department and ask them what kind of network they run.

Wireless N mode does not go faster than 54mbps in WEP settings. Since I am running wireless B and G devices such as PocketPC, Nintendo DS, Wii, PSP, and a few other computers. Running the wireless network in WPA is just not possible. I hope Intel will come up with a fix in the future to support the higher speed in WEP.

I opt'd for the N card, and this being my first laptop I had to set up a wireless network. After reading about so many problems with compatabiltiy issues, I decided to stick with a G router and wait for the technology to improve.
