Thanks for the info..
But this is for the RAID thing, no??
I mean, the one available @ Dell is an Intel AHCI driver for example, compatible with the M1530...
http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=R166200&cat=sup&x=0&y=0
So will I be correct in thinking that this new Intel driver is for systems with RAID tech., and not for the others? Or is this driver for everyone?? Can someone please clarify? Its not really clear to me.. tried reading around, but my poor brain couldn't understand.. it prefer' more of biology!! -
This is universal driver for all SATA, AHCI, RAID....
-
In the second link, for the matrix storage manager alone, the webpage says, "Installs the Intel® Matrix Storage Technology (RAID) driver version 8.5.0.1032 for Intel® Desktop Boards."... So... can u please elaborate on that?
I am asking because here is another one for "RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager".. so how are these two different or which would apply to laptops in general? and in this case, lets say a Dell XPS M1530 system?

From the readme.txt file,

From the Device Manager, look for an entry named
'Storage Controllers' for Windows Vista and
'SCSI and RAID Controllers' for Windows XP and later
operating systems. If this entry is present,
expand it and look for one of the controllers listed
in the Overview Section1. If the controller identified is
a RAID controller, then the system is in RAID mode.
If none of the controllers above are shown,
then the system is not running in RAID mode and
you should continue with step 6 below.
6. From the Device Manager, look for an entry named
'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers'. If this entry is
present, expand it and look for one of the following
controllers If this entry is present,
expand it and look for one of the controllers listed
in the Overview Section1. If an AHCI controller is
identified, then the system is in AHCI mode.
If none of the controllers above are shown, then
your system is not in AHCI mode. No other modes are
supported by the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager
software and you should continue with step 7 below.
7. Your system does not appear to be running in RAID or
AHCI mode. If you feel that your system is running in
RAID or AHCI mode and you do not see any of the
controllers listed above, you may choose to contact
your system manufacturer or place of purchase for
assistance.

Do aren't these drivers available specifically / separately depending on what you use? And the one released by Intel (the one in ur OP) are for the RAID systems specifically, for the Desktop boards listed in the bottom of the page, No?? Correct me if I am wrong... I am just trying to clear myself up....
Anyways, the Dell driver page, for example, in my case lists the system config / updates for Intel AHCI driver.. so what would I do / how would I be able to use this RAID driver?? I think it would be more meaningful to get an AHCI or a RAID/AHCI driver, isn't it? (like the one in the link I gave u here?)
Thanks. -
Driver is driver and description is the other thing. Driver is universal for everything, description is not. If you need driver for AHCI this is the one, if you need description for AHCI it is not.
I know it is not described as AHCI but it is the same driver. If you not sure you can wait for Dell to release it with the description you looking for. -
And how can I understand that "If you need driver for AHCI this is the one" without the provider actually saying so or describing so??? For sure it doesn't say its a AHCI anywhere while the other link they have exclusively mentioned RAID/AHCI.. so doesnt that mean they are both exclusive?
"if you need description for AHCI it is not." >>> Which driver provider provides drivers without a description that doesn't pertain to that particular driver??
I'm sorry but u lost me totally!! Anyways, thanks for that.. Cheers. -
It doesnt matter what you see on intel website. The driver itself is the same for all. It is just the website that say RAID, not the driver.
Please believe me I dont care if you use this driver or not I just gave the link. -
Thanks for the link... -
*Request for clarification*
Hi people,
Here.. I have a screenshot of stuff / things in my system with the driver versions and the websites from Dell with links to the drivers... Now can some one please tell me and clarify for me which is which and what is what? I have made two captures because I couldn't manage to show all windows in one cap... the second cap is the same as first one but with the marked window brought forward.
So can someone please clarify for me about which is exactly the matrix storage manager and related driver? Because in storage controllers I see microsoft iSCSI or something like that..
finally, once its clarified, if I see that the driver dates are more recent in the dell website, should I manually download n update the driver? Because when I did an automatic driver update by "update driver" from the device window, its said I have the drivers up-to-date...
Thanks a lot in advance if you guys can kindly clear it upCheers.

No problems, no blue screens etc, tested on Vostro 1500 (Vista + Turbo Memory) and XPS 1530 (Xp)
In my case it is the best Intel Turbo driver ever. -
i agree. i've been using this turbo memory driver (plus the included AHCI driver) over about a month now. rock solid stable. highly recommended
-
If you have been using the previous release v1.6, it was buggy as hell, see here. -
i'm also interested to see if the new 4965AGN driver is any good/stable. i've been havin some wireless issues lately and its really been pissin me off.
@ fonduekid: gotta love the real estate on the WUGXA huh? -
@ houstoned.. what wireless issues are you having? I am seeing none with mine here... and I haven't updated any drivers.. still with the shipped ones..
And yeah, the freaking real estate.. but can u please make any sense of it?? and like tell me in simple words, if you know, which goes where or which driver applied to which? I am not familiar with these things... thanks. -

have u guys noticed any improvements in yur wireless connections? stability? speed?
-
i got my early taste on v1.7 turbo memory driver from station driver, so yes, about a month. there were altogether 3 variants of v1.7 turbo memory driver with the difference only in AHCI drivers. i dont exaggerate things. just because you guys get it late doesnt mean others cant get it earlier. no offense.
-
-
that depends isn't it? the last version released by station driver is exactly the same as intel's release, even has the same hash and version number. what's more important, throughout the period i've been using it, the drivers proved to be rock solid stable. i guess you must have not even tried it or know about it, or it could be your own issues, perhaps lacking IT knowledge to even install them properly? no offence taken on the rubbish comments u made.
-
The files inside the driver were created by Intel on 23/07/2008 and tested for some time after that date so how could you use it for over a month?
Yes, the driver on driver station is the same but has been added a week ago.
Anyway, I don't care if you used this driver before and for how long but the story only showed your true face, well done! -
if u can understand english, u will see that i made it very clear there are 3 (THREE) variants of v1.7 drivers, with different AHCI driver. the latest release (3rd variant) by station driver was on 28 july, and the first one much earlier than that. i said i have been using v1.7 driver for over ALMOST a month, counting from the first variant of v1.7 driver, not the last. u need some serious english lessons man, and u have some real personal life issues. im not trying to take the credit away from u for notifying us about this official intel release. im just agreeing with u that v1.7 driver is very stable and i made this comment based on THREE different v1.7 drivers that have never failed me once.
lowering myself to your standard and continue to argue is not worth my time. u have short temper and rude ways of communicating, reflected by your past posts, including your rude reply to one of other forumer in this very thread u started. anyway, thanks a lot for informing us about the official intel driver release. you can be sure u are getting all the credit, and im not stealing your thunder. -
As much as Jako may have misunderstood you or may have sounded rude, I'm pretty sure Jako didn't really mean to. You could have left a lot of those out as they really weren't necessary to convey your point.
