    hey again

few more questions regarding the new dell 1520

    1. the new "Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (2MB cache/1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB)" compare to the "intel core 2 duo T5500" on the inspiron 6400, which one is better? i'm confused, cuz the number is lower and 1.5GHz now?

    2. Compare the "15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife" with the "High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1440x900)"....wutz da difference......how much better? wutz is the "glossy" thing?

    3. dell also offer the "Dell Travel Remote Control, IR add $0", is there a place on the laptop to insert the remote in? like the ones in HP laptops? itz $0, seems kooL!

plz give me some advises on these questions.......thanks! :D

    1. The T5250 is definitely slower than the T5500.
    2. One has a 1280x800 resolution (the first option) and the second is a 1440x900 display.
    3. I believe that remote goes in the expresscard slot when not in use.

    1. Basically, the T5500 is better, but neither of them are even worth buying. You should get at least a T7100 if you are going to get the Inspiron 1720.

    2. The glossy thing basically means that the screen is going to look better (on personal preference) and be reflective. Some people don't like this because they can see their ugly faces in it (jk), but I love them. The upgrades that you are talking about though, basically means that the screen will have a larger resolution. I, myself, would pay the extra $45 to get it, but that's just me

    3. It's free! Get it, then figure it out. :D

    Also, read this: very important.

From the specs you are asking questions about, it seems you have chosen the "wrong" base model to customize. Make sure you choose the one all the way on the right, because it has more options. I have no idea why Dell did this...maybe to deceive buyers...who knows. However, you can save lots of money on that model because there is a $292 instant discount (at least for me)

The Inspiron 1520 that my bro is ordering tonight comes out to $1500 with all the discounts we receive.

You should always look for the Cache. The larger 4mb cache is SO much more useful than another 200 or so mhz. Look for ze cache, ZE CACHE!

    Hi there,
    Between T5250 and T5500
    T5250 65 nm (architecture) 2MB L2 (L2 cache) 1.50 GHz(clock speed) 667 MHz (front side bus)

    T5500 65 nm (architecture) 2MB L2 (L2 cache) 1.66 GHz(clock speed) 667 MHz (front side bus)

Ther's just a small difference in the clock speed of the processor. Both having 2mb l2 cache and 667 Mhz the t5500 is better than t5250.

But actually speaking as an Electronics and Telecom Engineer if you compare the two processors they are equivalent not any difference in their performance UNLESS there's very high precision task u want to perform. For normal usage both same

What is the cost difference between them? If same price then wise advise is to go for 5500 but if there is a lot of difference then the 5250 is best choice

--- secondly for the monitor part, the glossy one is one which reflects a lot of light(the screen) .. i mean if there a light source facing the screen viewing the screen is difficult... My advice go for a non glossy one

you can also choose this budget CPU:
    T5470 65 nm (architecture) 2MB L2 (L2 cache) 1.6 GHz(clock speed) 800 MHz (front side bus)

After doing lots of research before buying my 1700, it seemed the consensus was that a 5470 was fine, and not worth upgrading unless you were doing lots of photo rendering, etc., since gaming depends more on GPU and RAM, correct?
