I have an M1330 with the Intel 3945ABG wireless card. I have an issue where sometimes my internet goes down and I need to repair/restart the wireless connection. Vista makes that kinda hard. It goes into trying to diagnose the problem, then gives option to repair. Following all that, my wireless card turns off and I have to restart the whole computer to fix it!![]()
I'm looking for the Intel Pro Wireless Software to manage the wireless connection. On my older laptops, I could choose to let the Intel software manage the connection rather than Windows. With Vista, it seems as though I'm stuck with letting Windows handle the wireless connection, and there are more problems and fewer options.
I looked all over the Intel website and downloaded drivers and software, but none of them take the place of managing the wireless connection. Does anyone have any ideas? Or better software to manage wireless?

I am pretty sure that you are stuck using vistas. Unless i am wrong but I searched intels site for their management software for their 802.11n card for vista and their instructions state to use vistas utility.
I am sure you can use a third party utility for vista though. -

I've tried all of the software listed there, nothing lets you view networks and connect, much like the windows manager

Does it stop working if you leave it idle for a while with the laptop closed? it could be turning it off to save power, there is a option in the device manager to uncheck that option fixed my 4945ABGN.

I've always been at the computer working on it while the card stopped working. It seems impossible re-enable it without restarting the computer

For me, the Vista software is fine, much better than XP's. But when XP's "Zero Configuration" wireless software was flaking out on me, I followed a recommendation and downloaded the free software from boingo.com. It's intended to simplify use with the Boingo hot spots, but you don't need a Boingo account. It held the signal much more reliably than XP. There is a version for Vista.
