If you're like me, and you bought your Studio 1535, 1536, or 1537 with the standard keyboard and now wish you had the backlit model, it's an excellent time to buy the keyboard on your own and install it yourself. It's an extremely simple process, involving no more than 4 Philips head screws, three ribbon cables, and ten minutes of your life.
Resaleremarking.net, an excellent parts retailer for Dell notebooks, has the backlit keyboard available for $37.95, which is an excellent price, especially considering it's Grade A, which is brand new. For reference, I bought mine for $50 just a couple months ago.
The part is now cheaper than ever, so what do you have to lose? Replacing the keyboard does not void your warranty with Dell, and is one of the easiest hardware replacements you can make on this laptop.
Here's a link to the part. I've bought from these guys before, and they're good.

If anyone decides to try it, let us know here how it goes!

Hm i wonder if they have an extra fan.
-
They sure do. Here's the one for the motherboard with the ATi 3450:

It should be identical for the 1535/1537. -
+1 for replacing it.
I replaced the keyboard on my 1737 and despite stripping one screw (my fault, wrong screw driver and i was impatient) its a dead easy job & the backlit keyboard looks really nifty! -
Awesome to hear your replacement went well.
-
The page lists it as for the 1535/1536, doesn't mention the 1537... But its the exact same, right?
That's a good price, I might finally jump on it and purchase one.

Dam i can't install this keyboard because i broke the plastic piece off when i first had to computer. The plastic piece to hold down the ribbon cable. NOT THE MAIN CONNECTER FOR THE KEYBOARD THE SMALLER RIBBON CABLE.
-
Yikes, that's a bummer. Theoretically, it should still work as long as you can find some way to hold the ribbon cable in the slot.
Alternatively, you could try your luck with Dell and see if they'll replace it for you. Just tell them that the part is broken, and don't mention exactly how it came to be that way. -
Yes lol i tried, but they told me they don't know the part am talking about. I mean there freaking stupid there tech support. I know so much more then them. Its pretty sad.
-
Sad but true, I'm afraid. Keep up the good fight, though. Call back a few times and speak to someone new. There's always someone who knows more or less than someone else.
-
Do they accept paypal? And international shipping?
-
They don't say anywhere on the site, but you can ask. Send them an email at sales[at]resaleremarketing.com
They were very helpful and responsive when I had questions about the keyboard. -
Is that keyboard compatible with the studio 1555?
-
Unfortunately, no, the 1555 has a different keyboard. I haven't seen the 1555 keyboard for sale anywhere yet.
-
Think it would work with an inspiron 1525? They look the same except for color.
-
You got to see if it has that extra connecter.
-
sorry..offtopic
do u get " Dell Studio 1555 15.6" LED Back Cover" anywhere.. i couldn't find any..
www.resaleremarketing.net has only 1 type for 1537..
can we change to one another whenever we want..
i mean is the procedure easy ?? -
Changing the lid is actually pretty tricky; it requires you to remove the display unit, and then disassemble it fully.
The Studio 1555 is a very new model, so parts for it are going to be somewhat rare for a while. -
Nope, doesn't have it. No backlight for me. -
I don't believe the Studio and Inspiron keyboards are physically compatible to begin with.
-
do you have to buy a light too or no?
-
If you buy the backlit keyboard, it includes white LED's under each key; it's all one unit.
-
thanks man. appreciate it
-
Certainly.
-
I looked around on thier site and could not find squat on the 1555 Backlit Keyboard =(
-
There's really nowhere to get 1555 parts these days, since it's a much newer model than the 1535-1537.
-
Oh....I just hope that if I do get a 1555 as a replacement, that it will have a backlit keyboard....
-
-
i changed my motherboard from a x3100 to the ATI HD3450 256MB, fan(i had too the new motherboard needs a different fan that did not come with mine for the heat sink of the ATI), the processor from a T5800 to the x9000 2.8GHz, the memory, the keyboard to the backlit, the mouse pad to get that fingerprint reader, the wireless card, the bluetooth card, the hard drive, the cover from a orange to the midnight blue, lol i think i got everything
-
Jesus, it looks like the display is the only thing left. Glad to see you got it all working, though
Also, I think you're the first person I've seen to try an X9000 processor in a Studio 1535, since it's not officially supported. Congratulations.
-
Hey guys,
delete... got it! -
-
Hey there, I am new to this site and would like to know if it is possible to install this on the new Dell Inspiron 1750. I saw earlier someone writing that it would be if it had the correct power installment. If it is indeed possible, what does the power connector look like?
Thanks. -
Hi,I read your thread and I am looking to put a backlit keyboard on a Inspiron 1440.Any ideas?
Thank You
Bob
