    hello..
have you guys ever timed ur boot times? anyway.. for those running VISTA... i was wondering if you ever counted the number of times the GREEN BAR thing moves across when LOADING up VISTA.

Mine moves across 8.5 times.... when i first used the computer.. it moved only 6 times... so something is slowing down my boot time. Did you guys/girls ever count? ..........just curious.

in msconfig, i have disabled the bootup gui, so i don't get the bar thing at all. but bootup time for me pretty much follows the size of my registry. more programs=bigger registry=slower boot. when is microsoft going to do away with the horrible artifact that is the registry?

oh, and boot time for me varies a bit. mine varies as much as 10-15 seconds. usually, it gets longer after an update/registry change/program installation, etc.

My boot time is around the ball park range of 40 seconds or so. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2.

I've tweaked it quite a bit, and disabled a lot of startup services and applications while still preserving the functionality of the OS and custom start-up apps :).

Also, using "No Gui Boot" mode (by changing the boot.ini) will supposedly speed up your boot up time by not having to load the boot-time GUI (I've only noticed minimal differences in speed, though. A few seconds at most).

last time i checked i got 6 bars but i just installed some windows updates so it may have slowed it, anyway from pressing the power button to a "clean" desktop window it goes pretty fast :D
