Is the internal connection for the Bluetooth radio in Dell laptops just a USB connector? That is, could one just bastardize an RF dongle and cram it in that little Bluetooth slot? I'm getting so fed up with Bluetooth mice.

What's up with bluetooth mice? Do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I was kind of hoping to use a bluetooth keyboard.

    They are flaky?

My bt mouse works so well I never leave home without it.
See sig for brand. BT is Dell installed and works well, only problem is it's a bit slow coming back after hibernate (two to three seconds).

Standby drives me crazy. I can't wake from Bluetooth, and yooper is right, the delay is awful. There is also some delay merely after the mouse has been idle. It's not a huge deal with a mouse, but I'd bet it would be really annoying on a keyboard.

Anyway, can anyone answer my original question?

I know I saw somewhere where you can tell it to wake from BT, but right now I can't find it. I'm set to waking from BT with the mouse and it does work.

Please tell me how. That would be wonderful.

And Leshii, I already looked through the docs and couldn't find a straight answer. You're right, though, it's something else. I opened it up and it's got like 10 pins. I still think that's a good idea, though: a small compartment with a USB port for a dongle. The compartment on the Dell's is too small for a whole dongle, but I was thinking I could have busted open one of those tiny Logitech dongles, had it turned out to be USB.

EDIT: Found it yoop. Under Mouse Properties -> Bluetooth. It's not really the saving grace I had hoped for, though. As soon as the computer goes into standby, the Bluetooth brings it right back out again.

If I let it go into Standby by idling for 20 minutes, the mouse still can't wake up the computer. If I force the computer to go into Standby, then the Bluetooth wakes it up immediately... and I was so excited.

Can you be more specific? Where's that option?

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Bluetooth, Allow this device to bring the computer out of stand by

Let me know how it goes. Doesn't do jack for me.

There's no Bluetooth option under Mouse in CP, there's Bluetooth under CP but the option is not there. I can't find it in device manager under mouse either.

Do you have a bluetooth mouse installed? The option only comes up in the proprietary software install for my bt mouse.

Try reinstalling your bt mouse drivers?

I do have a bluetooth mouse installed, the one in my sig. But, I didn't install the crappy setpoint though. I let windows detect it. Setpoint tends to screw things up for me, so I use windows generic driver. I don't need that feature if I have to install setpoint.
