Hello all, ill cut to the chase...Dell Inspirion 8600

My internal audio speakers were working fine about 15 mins ago and then I plugged in a SONY two AAA batteried add on speaker that operates through the headphone jack to listen to some music. As I did this, all the music stopped (usually it transfers to coming out of the SONY speakers just fine) and now (even after system restore to earlier date) the speakers dole out muffled sound and sound like it is from a 1980s video game.

The only thing I can think of is the SONY (which I just put new batteries in prior to use today) "blew" the sound card or messed up something with the audio by power surge type effect?

I know this seems unlikely but it def has something to do with plugging this **** cheap speaker into my laptop (it cost me 5.00 at walmart as it was a clearance item....originally was like 70 dollars...).

thanks and please direct me to any thread that may help as I searched but there wasnt one as unique as this!
