Can anyone tell me how to enable the built-in microphone on my Dell Inspiron 7720, I am trying to use Gmail Chat and while the video works fine the microphone doesn't pick up my voice - the only way people can hear me is by using an external headset. Can someone explain how to 'turn-on' the built-in microphone - I am using Windows 8, I have also posted the query on the Dell forums however the Dell team are not very helpful in all honesty.

I am running the A13 BIOS version, there is a newer A14 version available but reading the documents on the website it doesn't indicate that this new BIOS update will fix any audio/microphone problems. Obviously I do not want to do any unnecessary risky BIOS updates just in case something goes wrong and my laptop is 'bricked'.

Can anyone offer any advice with getting the internal mic to work...

You are missing the internal mic from Recording Devices.
Try reinstalling the audio driver from Dell website.
