Every now and then I hear an internal popping or clicking sound. Almost like a mouse button or static.

Sometime it is random, other times it seems to be inline with activity. It mostly happens when I am doing something, but I have also heard it when I wasn't using it.

I haven't had the time yet to run a diagnostic, but I am worried about the HD. I've had "problems" that can't be identified and Dell doesn't help too much.

Yeah, certain models do this, it is the hard drive. Apparently not an issue. My Inspiron 9300 has been doing it for 2 years now

Mine also does the marble sound. These drives sound shady.
