Has anyone ever used DELL warranty in another country than the one that their systems were bought?

    Did you have any troubles?

    Tnx!

Yes, I have (US laptop, serviced in the Middle East). However, it appears that the rules have been updated after the nvidia GPU fiasco to severely curtailed service areas. As far as I can tell, you can no longer have service in the Middle East and much of South East Asia. Certainly, you can no longer have service in developing nations or most of them anyway.

In the past, if you had a minimum of 3-year NBD onsite warranty, you were covered internationally almost everywhere. This is no longer the case.

Yes this is true I have the M1330 with Intermitent screen problems. It seems like the LCD go's blank but I can shine a flashlight on the screen and bearly make out the icons. This happens quite often. I had it replace less then 3 months after recieveing it. It has happened twice more and I'm in Jeddah Saudia Arabia. Dell said to send it state side to have it fixed. Well sure if I never want to see the compurter again. It's a shame because I'm here for 8 weeks and can't get my 1330 fixed. I have the 3 year ext warrenty with this computer.

Dell is going to get an ear full when I get back :( Do's anyone else have this problem with the back lighting.

    Hehe, no I didn't.

I am also currently in Saudi Arabia, and while I got my Inspiron 9300 repaired here a year or more ago, they won't touch my M1330. The rules have totally changed.

If memory serves me right it was always where Dell had a direct business. In a lot of countries Dell doesn't directly do business (they use resellers) and as a result the warranty wouldn't work there...

Not true. In the past, Dell had no direct presence in the Middle East and I have had my laptop repaired here.

Warranty is warranty, it's not tied to the vendor's business model. It is, however, conditional, and as I have mentioned, these terms and conditions have changed.

The exact same thing happened to me with the screen just a couple of weeks ago. Though it was a local service. The screen died on Friday and the next monday morning came the Dell technician to replace the screen on-site. It was an excellent service all-around. I was told that the black-out was probably a result of a faulty inverter due to extensive use (I've had this Inspiron 1300 for more than 3 years now), but he replaced the whole screen anyway! :)

When I first contacted Dell Support I was actually hoping they wouldn't have the parts for that as my laptop is an (relatively) old model and that they would give me a new system instead. :p

Anyway, back on topic. I believe, as frazell said, your international warrantly will only be available where Dell has a place of business since warranties are part of the services the company provides as its business. Thus if Dell has no business there, chances are there won't be a warranty either.

And like I said, the link on Dell's page tells it all. I HAVE had my laptop repaired in Saudi Arabia. Just the terms have changed since the nvidia fiasco, it has nothing to do with Dell's business model--if this was the case, why would they repair Latitudes only in certain areas? It is the same thing for Lenovo here. Thinkpads are repaired by the local IBM agency.

I called Dell yesterday on an unrelated D430 issue and they told me they would repair my Latitude but not my XPS here. The country isn't even listed on the international support page. No one truly knows what they are talking about frankly.
