I bought an Inspiron i5 laptop 5 months ago. my granddaughter has taken over and regards it as her own - as they do. But last night she changed something I dont know what. The Internet Explorer option pinned to the start menu no longer functions, it says instead that "The item you selected is unavailable" and that it might have been moved etc. Can anyone tell me what the name of the file I am looking for to sort the problem is? so I can reinstate this option. It used to give the option to open a "private" session or the standard IE.

You can find the program again by navigating to here:
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

right click and pin it to the start menu.

You might want to unpin the one that does not work anymore.

In the event that she moved/removed it, you might want to try a system restore.

Thanks, but I got that. The problem is that on that top menu line it used to show the Internet Explorer then a little > arrow way over to the right of the menu line. When you clicked on that you got a couple of oprions, one of which was to open IE in private mode. If you pressed the left part of the menu line, it opened up the normal IE (which is the iexplore.exe you pointed out). Is what I am looking for a submenu option or a program different to iexplore.exe?

I fixed it. Just removed the entry from the pinned area. then pinned iexplore.exe to the start menu. that reinstated the other option I was talking about.
All is well and Emily is back on the machine again!

Glad you got it working. Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. Read your reply, then forgot. :(

Anyway, that's kinda what I was going for. Glad you got it another way though.
