I'm just after ordering an Inspiron 6400 from Dell Ireland - they don't mention anything about Media Direct on the website description, but from reading the forum here it seems like it's a useful feature. Does anybody know if it comes with Media Direct, or if it's only available in the US?

    Thanks for your reply.

Can you telll me where the button for Media Direct should be - I have access to a European 6400 today, so I could check if it has it. From the Dell website it looks like it's not included in European models - which is a little strange.

Does anybody know if it's completely software based, ie can the software be installed and one of the other buttons be assigned to Media Direct, or is there a specific hardware requirement, ie a specific button which the software is linked too?

    Hi there.

I have a fresh Inspiron 6400 built in Ireland sitting beside me and it does feature the MediaDirect function.

A button labeled 'MediaDirect' to the left of the power button starts it up when the laptop is powered off.

Thanks for the reply Rasterian, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

It's just a bit strange that Dell use it in the marketing blurb for the e1505 in the US, but not for the 6400 in Ireland/UK, even though it's pretty much the same system. I would of thought it would be a nice extra (and relatively unique) feature to advertise.

    Thanks again for the response.
