u should add a poll to this.
-
That's so close in size that you really couldn't tell. I mean don't you think the regular CCFL screen would be MUCH bigger than the LED screen. That is still much thinner than an inspiron screen.
-
i am pretty sure it is a led plus camera adds 10 pounds.
-
Nice pics !!!and good detective work
-
Yeah great work. Looks like a pretty obvious difference to me.
-
I know the angles aren't identical but just look at the difference in thickness compared to the USB port
-
-
-
I don't see an obvious difference if you measure the two thickness lines you drew it's the same (1/2 an inch). I also see that the USB ports are from different sides of the machine. I think the easier way to tell is to look at the top of the screen where the curve from the back of the lid to the front of the screen occurs.
I am just not seeing the obvious difference when I take a ruler and measure it. Perhaps you should try that. It might be .1 of an inch though. I just can't tell with the scale.
EDIT: Actually...if you look at the curve at the hinge. That is where I see a difference. It may be that cliegal has the CCFL screen after all... -
Cliegals shot is taken with a slightly elevated angle so in theory her USB port should appear as thinner too!!! But compare the screen next to her USB port compared to dell's -
Cliegal take the same picture as Dell has so we can compare them?
-
-
What I wonder is if there are multiple suppliers of the LED backlit screens. It might be possible that they had to change supplier and the screens themselves may vary in thickness, viewing angles, brightness etc.
(or perhaps it was too flimsy and they re-engineered the thickness of the screen after releasing the first models which were thin enough for the "thinnest laptop..." boast.)
While I am here - according to the US User Guide the viewing angle between CCFL and LED backlit LCD screens differs substantially in the vertical direction:
-
The curve at the hinge is what has me convinced as well.
-
yeah...dell F***** us...big time!!!
-
i want the LED display i was promised..thats why i'm paying 3000$!!!
-
what about tileman's display???
-
I don't know... how about checking the Windows device manager to see whether it's CCFL or LED?

All XPS M1330 displays are 13.3 inch widescreen HD displays with TrueLife 1280x800. The LED display starts at 3.97lbs and is 0.87 inches thick compared to the standard display which starts at 4.28lbs. and is 0.97 inches thick.
Cliegal/Tileman PLEASE MEASURE -
-
take the side angel picture...cut out the serial port...the width of this is exactly 1/4 of an inch...rotate it 90 degrees...place it over the edge of the lid....it matches up perfectly....end of story in terms of it being 1/4 of an inch...but if the ccfl is only a bit thicker...a true measurement is needed since this isnt perfect -
Also that poll confuses LCD with CCFL. All the displays are LCD. The choice is between CCFL backlighting and LED backlighting
-
I think you may be onto something here.
I took a look at the specifications and the CCFL lid is 2.5mm thicker than the LED one - not that big of a difference, but in terms of the entire laptop, that's a good 10% thicker, if comparing the front, where it's thinnest. As well, I did a quick ratio calculation and the LED display should be ~ 6.5mm to 7mm, meaning that extra 2.5mm means 35%-40% increase in lid thickness.
I browsed around for the closest pictures I could find of the CCFL and LED versions and came up with the two pictures which I've attached. I resized them so that they would be as close to the same size as possible. Obviously the angle is slightly different, but close enough to see the difference.
Key differences to note between the two, aside from absolute thickness are the following:
1. While there is a tapering at the top of the LED display, it is much more pronounced on the CCFL version, where you can easily see that the lid gets thinner.
2. Because the CCFL lid is thicker, at the hinge, the angle at which the lid bugles is much greater with the CCFL, whereas the LED version is a much flatter bugle.
From TechIsCool's pictures page and the above two main differences (aside from thickness of course), I believe TileMan and the shell at the kiosk are LED versions while cliegal got the CCFL version. -
This news is rather disturbing and borderline fraud if it is true.
I am going to wait and see till I get my LED screen and research it myself. I have seen and touch and feel a Sony's LED screen, and cliegal's photo is no where as thin as Sony's SZ. -
-
The Dell Kiosk guy actually said that the red 1330 dummy imitates CCFL screen, not a LED screen (I took those pictures). Of course, I'm not sure if he's been told that or if he was making it up as he was going along...
-
Why did they include CCFL option...LED is much better...should've been the only option

type in your service tag number and see what it list for your screen -
Cant you just ask cliegal to see what res their camera is? Seeing as CCFL only comes with a 2MP and LED only comes with 0.3MP
-
I can answer this question - it's the LCD. I'm on the phone with Dell now to return or exchange.
tileman - you'd better double check yours too! -
-
I was actually right.
How did you find out for sure? -
i knew it...Dell is trying to screw us bigtime.
Cliegal...how did you find it???....it is LCD with 0.3Mpixel Webcam??? -
-
-
They cannot ship LED, it's just an evidence now. They probably shipped a few 1330 with LCD screens. All the others are backordered until the end of time!!! Merdeeeeee!
-
Oh you Frenchies. -
it that is LCD with 0.3Mpixel...it wrong because we have a double check as:
you have 0.3Mixel = LED display -
I am utterly confused...!!!! AY CARAMBA! what is going on?!
-
sorry about my english....but i am a bit frustraded...first laptop comes with dead pixel and now this one has wrong screen
-
omg! cliegal, I feel for ya
-
Could you imagine the embarrassment if Dell shipped any of the review M1330's with false LED displays.
-
I think cliegal should demand some sort of retribution.. a free printer or a free upgrade or something of that sort
-
From my service tag lookup online -
