Is Dell delaying Drake and other heavily discounted M1330 Orders Deliberately? They might be...

The new orders that keep getting shorter estimates are suspicious though.

Yea... i'm pretty suspicious too. Some already went into the BUILD stage. Maybe they're just doing this to hush us up? OR.. they halted all the UK/Australia/Asia orders for the US (cause they're having their estimated shipping dates PUSHED back).

Weirdddddd... I wish Dell would communicate with us instead of leaving us in the dark. :-(

That is exactly what happened. Dell regularly browses these forums and I'm sure they saw the thread about the Drake deal and how everyone was taking advantage of it even if they were not students.

That is what happens when people try to take advantage of deals that do not belong to them...

Anyway, I have no doubt that the big hold up is because Dell is now VERIFYING EVERY ORDER with Drake to confirm student status.

If you are a student a Drake try giving Dell a call to see what you can do to accelerate the process of getting your order cleared. If not, be very afraid

I got my m1330 through drake for 1550 after taxes + shipping and here were the following specs:

    T7300 2Ghz Processor
    2GB RAM
    Tuxedo Black
    LED Screen
    160Gb 7200 RPM HDD
    128MB Nvidia 8400GS
    Intel Next-gen WIFI card
    Bluetooth
    Free Nylon Carrying case
    3yr warranty

Now try to config with the specs above, be it Home, EPP or any current mystery discounts, and you will get nowhere near the price I got through drake...

It was a typo on a special site for Drake University Students which got people HUGE discounts that were never intended for even Drake University Students, let alone the mass public...

I ordered through Drake and they AUTOMATICALLY changed my "Affiliation" field to UC Berkeley without me notifying them or asking them. I found this out when I requested an invoice from Dell. I requested an invoice because they added incorrectly on my Dell Confirmation for my m1330. So I guess they didn't confirm with Drake after all, right?

I wouldnt worry about the delays, the savings most people got is worth the wait. I wish I would have gotten in on the deal as well.

However if it was a typo, most of the Dell printed ads have in thier disclaimers that they are not responsible for typographical errors or misprints, etc. So they could cancel the orders on that basis. Also look at how Dell runs thier coupons with premature expirations and limited customer uses and you see how this company can work. If they want to delay they will. If they want to cancel or verify, they will.

I highly doubt they are actually verifying student status of every order, but even if they're not, I would be surprised if these orders weren't being delayed. If nothing else, just not highest priority over other (maybe even subsequent) orders. Not saying so, just wouldn't surprise me. Similar situation went down with thinkpads and mass ordering on someones personal epp info that circulated the forum.

Umm, read the forum rules maybe? ie Conduct, Posting Guidelines, Paragraph A, item 3) Once a member enters a subforum, it is expected that every thread appearing on the first page be read and posted."

Hey arch- nice configuration. imo more people should include the price of their system in their sig. IMNSHO, YMMV, BTAINSFLA.

ha ha.. .i doubt it very much.. you know what gives Dell a bad image.. look at all the threads talking about headphone noise on the inspirons, grayed out screen on the 1520s,... the underclocked 8600 GT, or the cheap plastic casings... that's what gives Dell a bad image.

    Posts like these:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141100 (60% failure rate on headphone jack??)

I've heard a few cases of Dell calling up people with the Drake that they believe took advantage and asked them questions like how could they go to Drake if they lived in another state? And I know of a specific experience where one of my friends who ordered from Drake actually got his order canceled because Dell verified that he wasn't actually a student there...

I'm so happy I didn't go through Drake...

Posting something Dave wrote about as it seemed relevant to this thread as well:

    --------------->

    M1330 Shipping Delay (Explained!)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found this post on the SD forums found at http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthr...__#post7277582 Post #855

The Guy claims to be a Dell Employee and seems very legit to me...here is what he said in response to the M1330's (Might clear things up)

"for those of you curious, you can stop calling all my sales reps and customer service reps wanting to know where your computer is. there is a global shortage on the glass used to make the lcds, as well as a delay on the video cards. couple this with the unit being a new production model and you have a 30 business day lead time. while we got a limited supply of chassis' and other items to ship out a portion of the systems, there is still a pretty short supply causing the delays. just because your order says 'in production' does not mean we are actually building it. just means the manifest has been sent over to manufacturing and your method of payment has been approved. calling and canceling to replace the system with the idea that it will ship is not the best choice, you will only delay your order longer...

finally, the reason i was passing along the friendly advice about not calling to cancel items and downgrade is because those are the orders we are starting to cancel. we have a full order report of every system that cleared through the drake page and are canceling for those that are attempting to take even further advantage of the drake page system by downgrading and changing specs. this goes for several other schools, but drake was impacted the most. i am sure a few folks that initially got in on the deal can verify that we have canceled their orders and some on multiple occasions.

just let your systems be, stop calling the queues to ask about them, and wait another 3 or 4 weeks and everyone will be a whole lot happier."

Hope this helps clear some things up guys,

    Dave

As posted in the other thread on the delay of the m1330..I hope all you wastes get your orders cancelled.

Not so true. The ACTUAL Drake students will receive their discounts in full + their order. Only the heartless money-hungry rip offs who admitted to beating the system to have some (even slight) financial gain. I hope all their orders get cancelled after 29 days and they all realize how stupid it was to save a few dollars.

Perfect analogy would be getting priveleged access to a system that you DO NOT have priveleges for and taking advantage of whatever is inside/including stealing and screwing all the priveleged people out of their PRIVELEGES.

I hope everyone understands that you not only tried to save money when you had no right, but you also screwed it up for a lot of people that now have to suffer through long queues because Dell now has to go through every order to see who is legit. You're all scum. end of story.

the thing i like about the Drake Deal Fiasco is that people whose orders are being canceled get so pissed off when they, in reality, knew it was a pricing error/glitch that allowed those orders to be originally placed. i find it comical and sad at the same time.

Several on here have confirmation from Dell and Drake reps that it is not a glitch. The pricing is correct. If you read through the original thread on here about the Drake deal (and this is the first site that got notice of this deal) you will see it was no glitch. The reason people are saying this on numerous forums is that people keep spreading the rumor that it was some glitch. These people are wrong.

Hey, why don't you provide your proof because you're the idiot in every thread claiming Dell made a pricing error. What took you so long to respond? You wanted to gather a little army before you had the guts to let your ball drop from your stomach and ask for proof? I want YOUR proof first. If you can't provide proof then there is no need for me to provide proof because we'll all understand that you don't know what you're talking about.

You don't know jack crap, and you don't have access to inside Dell information. I go to Drake, I speak with my demo center on a daily basis along with the IT department.

What's so funny? As far as I know, I'm the ONLY person from Drake. I've spoken to Jason Crow at Dell personally and I've spoken with my Demo Center before this incident had taken place and it is not a pricing error. Get that through your head.

If it were a pricing error, why is there a University that is still offering the SAME price? Don't PM me asking because I won't tell you.

Thirdly, if it affected Dell so much, why haven't they changed their website? It's still easily accessible to the general public.
