I'm buying the wife a new laptop for Christmas this year. She uses her computer for internet, MS Office, and the Sims 3 (well she uses my Macbook Pro for Sims currently, but not after Christmas :p ).
The primary specs concerns I have for the lappie to run Sims 3 are:
Pentium Dual Core 2.0ghz and Radeon 4330.

I can get one of these off their outlet for <$500. Will this be enough for Sims 3 at decent settings on WXGA res.?
Its no MBPro I know, but it looks like it should do the trick.

    Can you go higher?

The ATI 256 card is OK but many gamers think its not enough for like Sims 3

Personally I think it will run

I would not get less then a Celeron Core Duo

    Better cost more:

    The studio is nicer
