I have a quick question about the Dell Travel Remote in some of the XPS M1330. I am going to pick up an M1330, and the auction doesnt say whether a travel remote is included or not.

The basic specs of the system
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz Processor
    - 2GB DDR2 Memory
    - 120GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
    - 13.3" WXGA Glossy Widescreen w/ Integrated 2.0 MegaPixel Webcam
    - 128MB NVidia GeForce 8400M
    - 8X DVDRW Slot Drive - Burn DVD's and CD's
    - Fingerprint Reader
    - Intel Pro Wireless 3945 - Internal Wireless Card - A/B/G Networks
    - Internal 355 Bluetooth Wireless
    - 9-Cell 85WHr Battery
    - AC Adapter Included
    - Microsoft Works 8.5
    - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
    - All system discs included!

    PORTS
    USB (x2) - FireWire - VGA - HDMI - 10/100 - Express Card Slot - Audio Jacks

My main question is can a travel remote be added?

If its still brand new and in its box as the auction states, then yes you should get the remote. If not, I have a brand new sealed one for sale ;)

I just ordered (Sat.) a system almost exactly like this one, but:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2 Ghz Processor
    200GB Freefall Sensor Harddrive 7200RPM
    13.3 WXGA Glossy Widescreen
    128MB NVidia GeForce 8400M
    4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)
    Travel Remote included

Similar system, but the one below is slightly faster, but smaller Hard Drive, no Freefall and twice the ram the system you're looking at has.

The thing is, purchasing from Dell Outlet (where I ordered mine) gives you 21 days to return, if you're unhappy for any reason.

There are a LOT of different configs you can get. Might be worth your time.

I also have 1 Year in home repair.

    Thanks for the input guys.

The main reasons I am looking at that auction is because of the warranty. I am in college, so the ability to have a warranty of around 2-3 years will make it through my college education.

What do you guys feel I should opt for. The budget is around $1000-1100, the less the better considering how technology is nowadays.

A longer warranty or a slightly better overall system from Dell Outlet with a basic warranty?

The main things the computer will be used for is MS Word (notetaking in class), Use of internet/surfing, emailing, bluetooth for wireless printers, some basic fire modeling programs.

Find out if you can't purchase an extended warranty, if you buy from the Dell outlet.

I know that I was able to extend my warranty from HP about a year and a half after buying it. Most companies make decent $$$ from selling warranties, so they're willing to sell/extend them.

I personally feel strongly that I HAVE TO have some time where I can return a major purchase, if I happen to get it and for some reason (there's a whine, the screen looks aweful, whatever) I hate it.

I couldn't see purchasing a laptop, esp. being there isn't any store I can go to and physically touch it and pick it up, without knowing that should I absolutely be disappointed (doubt I will be, but... ) that for the cost of shipping, I can get my money back and return it.

    That's just me...

You can get a full warranty from the outlet, but it may be hard to keep the price under $1100 for an M1330. I'd say it's worth it to go to maybe $1300 to get a system with a full 3 year warranty and accident protection, especially if you're in college. Alternatively, get a non-XPS, system--if it's mostly for word processing, and you're on a budget it might make more sense to get a nice lattitude with the warranty than an XPS without. I've seen too many laptops get knocked off a desk by someone carelessly walking by... Students are dangerous for notebooks. :)

I'd definitely go with the outlet over a seller on ebay--you have a guarantee it's legit, and while the majority of ebayers are fine, there's always the risk of a scam or just not getting quite what you thought you would, and not really having any way to get it straightened out.
