I am thinking of just getting a D630 with whatever hd size and upgrade it myself.
Is it a SATA 2.5 hd?

Yep, the D630 has a S-ATA HDD
Why doing it yourself? You can call Dell and tell them that's the real pricediffenrence is a lot lower. I got an invoice with a € 10 upgrade for 120 GB 5400 to 100 GB 7200rpm instead of the default € 100

Dell is really trying to make more money i am telling you, some indian accent lady called me right after i placed my order for a D630. and she offered a upgrade for my HD from 80 - 120 for 30 dollars. lol well, i turned her down because i have two 120 GB western digit external hard-drives. and everything i require for work are on there, no point for me to get a bigger hard drive.

My machine just shipped with a 80GB, I plan to buy a 160GB drive and an enclosure in the near future and switch them. Essentially, the 80GB goes into the enclosure and 160GB goes into the laptop.
Why did I do this? Because for the same cost to upgrade, I could get a free 80GB drive and use it as an external drive.
Is SATA on the D630?
