I have an relatively new ac adapter for my inspion 9100 that is 150W that fits in the port on my M1710. From my understanding of power supplies, the wattage is simply the amount of power that the computer can draw from the adapter. If this is true, I'd expect it'd be compatible. I just wanted to check here for a confirmation before frying my new laptop on a whim. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it is. In fact, I think the 150W is actually recommend for the M1710 due to its size and needed power.
