EDIT: Please read before replying. I have explained several times that it is not a plastic covering put on to protect it during shipping. I have tried to remove it, it does not come off or is glued on. The 2nd notebook Dell sent me does NOT have any scratches or plastic covers on the hinge logos.
Quick rundown of my situation. I bought an M1330 on Dec. 17, and it arrived Dec. 20. The Dell logo on the hinges of the first M1330 I received were scratched up. I noticed this when I got the first one, but I thought it was a plastic cover over it for shipping, but when I inspected it closer while boxing it up today, it's not a cover, it's just scratched up.
It also had the old revision A01 motherboard with the high pitch squeal. I called Dell and they sent me a new one with the latest revision A04 motherboard which arrived today. The hinges on this one are not scratched up, but it still suffers from the high pitch squeal.![]()

That totally looks like plastic film. Are you absolutely sure it's not?
-
i think u have to peel a piece of plastic that is on it
-
come on it has air bubbles
-
-
u can see where u have to peel in the first pick and also u can c that scratch/line was porbably once an air buble which had been squeezed
-
OMG!
-
I just looked at my 1530 that I received last week and sure enough there was plastic covering the dell logo on the hinges. I peeled it off as I was reading this thread and now they look all shiny...
-
Uhh yeah. Peel the protective plastic off first...
-
Look at the second pic you can see the plastic extending below the dell symbol.
-
You know that mole over your lip that suddenly appeared two days ago?
Dude... it's chocolate. -
dime baaaaar !
-
Thats so funny he thinks dell is screwing him when he just hasnt finished unwrapping his laptop...
-
dude its dell..u can nvr be too sure.. lol wat if its acutlly refurb though lol
-
This has to be the funniest thread in the history of this forum -
-
then y are there air bubbles
-
agreed its the funniest thing ever !!!
especialy when you can see the air bubbles, the plastic going over the edge, and the scratches clearly in the plastic in the 1st pic where it looks like someones scratched it with a finger nail and still not realised !!
look at them 2 pics, you can blatanty see that its protective plastic covering !! -
left hinge: has wrapping
right hinge: no wrapping and scratched.
too bad this system had cpu whine--otherwise i'd ahve kept it. -
That made me laugh. Its plastic film to keep the dust/dirt off of it while in transit.
-
-
both sides DONT' look like plastic film. look at the picture--left has plastic and right doesn't.
...this thread is the equivalent of 'killing a fly with an elephant gun!!... -
-
Mt9, IMO, there are air bubbles seen on both sides, indicating that both sides are covered w/plastic.
-
-
Wow, I didn't even realize there was plastic there, just took it off the hinges on my 1530, LOL!
-
In an attempt to illustrate what most people are saying in this thread, I lightened up the OP's right hinge photo in Photoshop and illustrated what are most certainly air bubbles. The whole perimeter is one gigantic bubble:
HTH -
This is really funny. It only takes 2 seconds to answer.
a) its plastic film, pull it off and no need to complain
b) if your convinced it's not film and is the actual part then complain to dell not on a forum asking if dell ships new pretending to be refurbished.
c) Regardless if you're not happy with it call dell and ask them this question. -
lol it took three pages, maybe 4 if this makes it to the fourth page
-
thats actually quite funny.
he said he did a CLOSE inspection though.
FEEL IT, PEEL IT! -
There is no plastic covering there, they usually leave some overlap to make it easy to peel off. If it is a plastic covering, it must be glued down and is not meant to be removed.
-
ROFL!!!! Accusing Dell of providing a refurb, when its so new its still covered in plastic!! lol
Nevertheless, in his defense, sometimes its hard to tell there is plastic on it, since it doesnt always have a tab to pull the plastic off easily - like mobile phones do....
It does certainly look like a plastic covering though. -
Use your fingernail to scratch it and you'll see that everything everyone has been trying to tell you is true and you owe an apology. -
Here's a link to another thread where an XPS M1530 owner returned a system for a scratch (which he later realized was on the plastic). He was about to return the replacement system when the lightbulb went on...

LMAO...oh man, sometimes IQ is needed for thinking before making yourself look like a ...

I just noticed this too!!!! I got exact same problem!!!! It had the hairline scratch on the plastic cover!!! How dare they!!!!! I am going to call my atthorney, and sue Dell for $100 million dollars!!!
lol
-
The 2nd notebook Dell sent me does not have anything covering the logos on the hinges or any scratches. -
LOL, some people, huh?
-
Could someone who just got a new m1530 or m1330 peel half of the sticker off and then take a picture to demonstrate the issue?
-
-
This thread is a great example of why I like buying 'used' computers from the Dell outlet. Nothing like getting big discount for such an obvious 'scratch and dent' defect.
-
It is a plastic covering everyone on this thread can see it why won't you except the facts!
-
I've unboxed it for the last time.
It may not be refurbished or used, maybe the kid in Malaysia who's job it is to glue the little logo on dropped some of them. I wouldn't send it back just for that, it's going to get beat up by use anyway.
If you don't believe me, that's fine, I could care less, but why do some people have to act like children and resort to insults because of it. Grow up people.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
i think we should call in CSI.
only kidding
i see the light -- there is plastic on both sides (i can't believe I'm still on this thread. but wanted to admit i was wrong. -
I don't care if you don't want to admit your wrong on this thread or not...just really peal it off and go on your way.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

I peeled mine off last night as I was reading this thread. I didn't even notice there was plastic covering them because they looked perfect, no scratches or bubbles. Anyway, they were hard to get off and had no overlap to grab. I scratched the edge with my fingernail about eight times before I could see it start to peel up.

Apparently OP’s camera got much eye sight than he does. LOLOLOLOL
Seriously OP, try harder! If your finger nails are too short, then use some tools. We can gaurentee you that's plastic cover. You don't just scratch it with your finger nail. You peel it off from the edge. (God! I feel so stupid trying to teach someone how to peel a tape off)
If you still can figure this out, then return it. You don't deserve the machine.
Is dell boxing used/refurb systems as new?
