    Hi everyone..
I am going to buy a inspiron 1520 in India within a week or 2... There is an option in customization to upgrade the Wifi card to draft N mini card.. The only confusion is that.. Will it work with my b/G network in my home? I mean to say can draft N mini card in laptop can find the g lan set up of my home?

I have an N card in m xps m1330. Not sure if it is the same as the one you have though....I am kind of clueless about stuff like that. But, my card only works with a "g" network. It will not work with a "b". I have to get a new router because of it.

If you are talking about Intel 4965AGN then it will work with G for sure , and most probably with b as well (according to the spec).

@ PhoenixFx-- Yes its Intel 4965AGN mini card.
@melliet-- My home network supports "g" network for sure..(My dad's laptop works flawlessly in home lan)
so it will support my laptop also..

I just looked up the card that I have and it is a "Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini card" and it does not work with the b router that I have. It only picks up g or n.

I even called Dell and they told me that it won't work with b. But, it works just fine with g.

Initially I also thought 4965 AGN, doesn’t support b because of it’s name. But Intel site says otherwise. Maybe the specific adapter used in DELL doesn’t support b, I don’t know. Only thing I know for sure is that it works with G (cos I’ve used one).

Thanks PhoenixFx for looking into the matter and for the bit of the info also..

Anything with G support will also work with B. G cards are backward compatible with B networks, not sure if vice-versa though.

Anyway, to answer the original question, yes, the N card should work with your G router. But, honestly, there's no point in having an N card if you can't take advantage of it, you know. ;) Just my two cents.

scythie an 802.11n card will still give you better range over a normal 802.11g card.
