I called Dell just to ask a question about their product, and before I hang up, the representative told me when I was ready to order, to call her back and she can offer be the best deal. Is that true, can she offer me a deal?

I want to customize the XPS16 to almost the most powerful configuration. What type of discounts can the dell representative offer me?

So, is it better order through the phone or online?

    Thanks.

in the past when I've called, I would configure something online, call a rep, then would get a better discount (on top of a coupon code). For me it was like $100 off or something IIRC

I've heard of people calling in and negotiating with the sales reps for better prices - and in many cases, successfully. I'd try to order over the phone to see what you can get.

Go with the phone...a FTW. If you try, you can usually get a good deal.

And, if the Rep is offering it to you. Have what you wanted saved to your cart, and call back with that prepared to *negotiate* :D You really shouldn't have to do a full out *negotiation*...if they want the sale, they will give you a deal. ;)

I also recommend you to call Dell and speak directly to Sales Rep. When you order online, you get what you see on your screen, but Sales Reps often give out various goodies, either free upgrades or nice discounts. When i was ordering my Adamo, they gave me 4 year premium warranty + 4 year accidental damage coverage for free (worth quite a lot of money in total). I didn't complain and was rather pleasantly surprised :D Was completely worth it those 20 minutes wasted on phone and being all friendly and polite

I like Les' idea that he posted here a while back. Short, sweet, to the point, and apparently pretty effective.

Read this abridged version, somewhere on here is the longer version, i forgot where though. It's pretty effective too, apparently.
