I just called to find out why the Studio 14z's Web page contains an advertisement for the Intel i5 yet has no option for a customer to buy the computer with that chip.
I first have to be screened by a preliminary customer service rep who sounded like he wouldn't be able to work at Burger King, and he transfers me to a 2nd rep.
The 2nd rep tells me that I am currently able to buy a 14z with an i5, but the site has yet to be updated. I ask if she can give me basic information about which i5s are available and the prices, and she says she will not do it unless I complete a profile (name/address/phone number).
I ask to speak with her supervisor, and she tells me she has no supervisor, saying her manager has left for the evening (at 5PM local time). I ask when the next supervisor/manager will arrive, and she says there will not be another supervisor or manager on duty for the rest of the evening. I say, "It's 5PM at Dell, and you're telling me for the rest of the night there will not be a single manager or supervisor at your entire call center?" And she says, "That's correct."
I was intrigued by the price of the 14z compared with competitors' offerings, but I think I know where they're saving money.

And this makes them a horrible company as a whole how exactly?

Heiji,
To answer your question, I subsequently went online (via Chat) to ask the same thing I did by phone.
The Chat rep was very nice, but she said the 14z does *not* have the option of the i5 right now. I asked if she was sure (not mentioning what the girl had told me on my phone call minutes before, but mentioning the fact that the 14z advertised the i5 on its Web pages), and she said she was certain, after checking with management.
I asked when the 14z would have the i5, she said no one knew. -

nah just you

Where is the 14z with i5 advertised?
-
That does not make them a horrible company, just a clueless company.....

stupid thread is stupid.

This thread is horrible.

They're not a bad company, they are just a company that adopts technologies and standards a little bit slower than some of the other PC manufacturers.

My small business is outfitted with Dell equipment. I will say this, it is not as good a company as it was. Aspects of customer service are fine and aspects are a lot like you describe. I remember paying off my account once and the difficulty reactivating it. There are times when nobody really seems to know what they are doing. And there are times when you get a really good tech rep and your problems are solved in a jiffy.
There are better companies and there are worse. Dell is about average.

cheap customer services, but most their stuff is well built imho
Is it just me, or is DELL a horrible company?
