    Yes

Display will depend on Video Card.

I've connected my I9300 to a 19" LCD Monitor and a 19" CRT Monitor and both had different settings/view dependent on Native resolution.

When i connected it to my CRT I had to change settings manually but after that it remembered the setting and anytime I connected it afterwards it would automatically set itself to that resolution.

It is a combination of both. If your external monitor only supports resolutions that are lower than yours, you will notice a difference. On mine, my LCD only supported 1280 by 800, yet my laptop is 1440 by 990. So when i use my monitor, i have to adjust my resolution in order for everything to fit on the screen. Otherwise, your desktop won't completely show up on your monitor.

there will be no problems. I connect to a 22 inch belinea monitor and can play cs source at 1680x1050 resolution. If anything, the Dell will have better quality.
