okay..right now i have a dell dimension E520..anyways you know how dell gives out the OS installation discs. anywas i got one for my desktop..what i am wondering is..if i order a Vostro 1500 with XP will i be able to use that Dell Vista disc later (when vista gets "better") to install Vista on the Vostro 1500 lappy?

let me know if you need more clarification.

first I believe it's illegal to use one license on multiple computers, just email dell and tell them you forgot that you ordered XP and thought you were going to get the "bubble os" called vista, maybe they'll ship you one

If your copy of Vista is an OEM copy (i.e. it came with the computer), it violates the license. Also, your license key for XP won't work for Vista, and if you try to use the Vista key for both machines (or even switch the machine it's used for) Microsoft will probably catch it and it probably won't work.

If you have a retail copy of Vista, you could uninstall it from one machine and reinstall it on the other.

But Vista is already "better" so why not use it now?

Yes, I have heard about how many people don't like Vista...but the thing is, every single person I have heard talking about how they don't like it haven't even tried it!

Yes you can. Although, the license key won't work, but you can always try
Don't know/care about the legal "issues" though

I have tried it. I don't like it. It is a bloated toad of an OS. Maybe after the service pack(s) come out it'll be better, but I am not using it for another year or two in any case. :p

What's bloated about it? Absolutely nothing...and also just for clarification, did you install it on your own computer and use it for a period of time no shorter than 1 week? Or did you stop by a store or friends house and look around for 5 minutes?

My own PC. 512MB of RAM, 3ghz processor for 9 days. Slower than XP media center even with all the pretty turned off. I played with as many options as I could find and just could not stay with it any longer. I will stick with XP for now.

Besides I would run into major compatibility issues now with work and school. There are more reasons to not change to it than there are to change for me.
