Is it really worth $100 for a 1.83 vs. a 1.66 dual core?

Opinions? Paired with a gig ram and 7400 on the 1210. I want to run Half Life 2 fine.

I'd go for it over a 1.66, yes, but wouldn't see much of a worthwhile jump if it were going from say 1.83 to 2.0 instead. Given it's not a high-end 7800, card, every little bit helps. I'd also ensure the speed of your ram matches your cpu's FSB to make sure you're not losing any performance there due to bottlenecking.

    Your best bet is:

    A) A faster HD, a 7200RPM One

    B) More RAM and make sure it is fast 667mhz RAM not 533mhz.

    C) If you have money left over then get a 1.83. It will be very hard to notice a difference between the two CPU's though. In my option it's not really worth it. If it was more like $50, the usual price online when upgrading from a T2300 to a T2400 then it's worth it.

The new prices are up this morning.

    The 2300-2400 jump is 60, the 2400-2500 is 120 (180 total) down from 100-200 or 300 total.

Does a good job of mirroring the price cuts Intel posted on May 28th....and is a large part of the reason I waited until today to order.

Now if I can just find an EPP coupon for 750 off. They almost always have them but I can't find it yet this morning.

Yes, that it would. Personally the RAM speed doesn't make a big difference between 533 and 667. The Cas Latency is higher in the 667 so you will get maybe a 5-10% increase in RAM performance.

For hardcore gaming I would go for 2GB of RAM, which at that time, the difference between 667 and 533 wouldn't be that much, because most games won't top out with that much RAM usage. :p

    Hope this helps.
