I have a 1520 that I want to scrub and reinstall Vista Ultimate which I recently got free from MS for participating in a monitoring program. I would like to dump all the partitions and create just 2, a C: drive and D: for my data. I would like to remove the Media Direct partition and also the restore partition Dell creates.

    Is this safe?

My concern is the Media Direct button and what would happen if I accidentally press it if I don't actually have a MD partition. I have read various posts about MD nightmares and I'm a bit paranoid. Will it be silently ignored if I press it?

Sure. Most of us here don't have it on our machines.
