In my opinion, this delay is probably due to Dell choosing a smaller tiered Taiwanese manufacture to produce such a unit. They could of went with any of the top 3 manufactures, them being Compal, Quanta and ASUS but they opted for the smaller Wistron(formerly known as Acer's ODM department). Currently, it seems that both Compal and Quanta makes the 1500/1520, 1700/1720, majority, if not all of the Latitude units, and ASUS with the 1400/1420. Then theres the m1330(Which I believe Dell did not expect such a large quantity to be sold, thus they went with a smaller yet reputable manufacturer in Wistron). Of course, I have no sources or official to source from but it only seems like a possibility.

But my first system definitely has Made in Malaysia stamped on the bottom. Maybe this company in Taiwan makes a lot of the parts for the system like chassis, lids, screens? Then they are just assembled in Malaysia and Ireland? That would make sense. -
Nah, Quanta and ASUS used to make the 13.3" Macbook, but all orders has been pushed to Quanta, as well as major companies like HP and Dell has stopped ordering from ASUS, probably cause they see them as a threat.
When I mean manufacturing, I mean the base barebone pieces, which is made by Taiwanese companies, but could be located elsewhere. I know Quanta and Compal have manufacturing warehouses located in Malaysia, China and Vietnam. The barebones like the motherboard, chassis, and various bezel parts are probably made in such warehouses, only to be shipped to places like Ireland to be assembled together. -
Production issues may be one thing, but the global shortage of notebook parts is something that has concretely impacted ship times right across the map. -
Hmmm, that's the OEM rankings, correct? That does make sense, I went with the ODM rankings I believe.
Global shortage is seriously one main factor, and it's interesting to see its not just one or two things, but a large handful: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20070815PD216.html -

I'm quite surprised at the overall parts shortages. I'd imagine that when all is said and done, we'll see that notebook shipments this year jumped quite a bit (or at least tried to) and that parts manufacturers just weren't ready for the demand. Reports are already coming out stating that crossover between notebooks and desktops (as in more notebooks sold than desktops) will occur a year or two earlier, around 2008-2009 as oopposed to early next decade. -
I thought cross-over has already happened... hmm, I guess I was wrong

Wow, that's fairly succinct. Tell us how you really feel... LOL -
Wow! This post turned into a mess, which I had no intention of doing! I guess I am just going to wait patiently for the laptop to arrive, and in the meantime pray that it comes with excellent build quality and no major flaws!
Thanks. -

We could all buy tickets and fly down to Asia and beat the living **** outta these useless pricks, couldn't we? To speed things up (and for the pleasure of it).

Trust in the fact that mine were received just over a week ago in great condition.

Well, my replacement order was placed on 08/13 with a shipping date of 08/17, and today it's still in Build stage. Since I do not have any connection inside Dell, I am not sure if the production is on hold or just a longer delay.

Call a CSR and make sure they have access to DOMS (Dell Order Management System). That will tell you exactly where the system is. Ask them the expected shipping date.
Is it true?! M1330 recall?!!! Question!
