    that's really up to you.

the diff in perf will not be that great, though there are other advantages

I personally think it is too much. Unless the budget is someone else's (your company/university), I would save the money.

oouch! that is a massive upgrade price for "value" computer. is this "merom" if it is, stick with 2.4; it is a powerful beast. if it is merom; i see no need to up it to 2.6.. unless you seriously and frequently need to cut your time in processesing things like... large video/graphic/data.

no, the marginal performance gain is not worth the extra money. How much is the extra £310 as a percentage of the total laptop price?

The price for Vostro 1500 with T8300(2.40GHz) is £449 Ex VAT, while with T9500 (2.60GHZ) is £759 Ex VAT

I would not pay that much money for 200 Mhz because Idon't think it is really worth it in my opinion. I have T7700, and I think it is really fast for everything I do. Just stick with T8300.

Right now, I am running 3 virtual machines and one of them is server 2003. I also got a bunch of windows on my IE. My machine hasn't slow down at all. I am very happy with the perforamce of the processor, so you should be fine.

£310 (that's what, over $600?) is waaaay too much for a measly upgrade like that. Stick with the 2.4Ghz C2D.
