My laptop is in my sig. The rear USB connection on the left side as you face the screen seems to be playing up...or is it?

If I plug my mouse into it, it [the mouse] won't work. It'll work in the other three connections just fine, just not the back left one.

However, I currently have the Xbox 360 wireless PC receiver plugged into that connection, and I've just been playing Tomb Raider Anniversary on my laptop with the wireless 360 controller just fine.

    What's going on?

48 views, 1 BUMP, and 0 replies. Can I assume that nobody knows? In that case, it looks like I'll have to brave the long, long, looong waiting times of the Dell customer support line tomorrow morning. NOT looking forward to that....but I bet my phone company are!

How did you resolve the problem? Repair-under-warranty? Just lived with it? Did the problem spread to the other connections in time, or was it merely an isolated occurrence?

Plug in a different USB device (memory stick, another mouse / keyboard etc.)and check to make sure.

I did see that. I suggested plugging in another devices because it might be just a mouse diver issue or a conflict on that specific port, especially if you use a Wireless or a special mouse with a 3rd party driver. Just guessing..

Does your mouse happen to be VX Revolution?

Cause I had the exact same problem, turned out it was a faulty mouse.

    @ Phoenix

It's a wired optical mouse, and it's plug & play.

    @ CyberGhost

I don't know what VX revolution is. I'll have to ask Google. I doubt it anyway. It's just a basic, budget-priced wired optical mouse.

Just plugged my iPod into the troubled port, to sync it with iTunes. Worked fine, same as always. I think it's safe to say that the connection is fine, and that the fault lies with the mouse. But then, it too works just fine - in the other three ports. It's only in that one port that it refuses to work. Baffling!

Read through the thread for context...

It's definitely the mouse. Now it's acting up when plugged in the back right USB port, where it was only the back left one before. If I move my laptop slightly, the connection is that sensitive and intermittent that the mouse will connect and disconnect, and you'll get the distinctive Vista 'beep' to go with it. Just removed the mouse and plugged in my iPod though, and it's working fine. Shifted the laptop around a bit and all, and no problems. Oh, and the 'troublesome' back left connection? My Xbox 360 controller wireless receiver is plugged in and working without a hitch.

It's definitely the mouse. I guess that's what happens when you buy a cheapo budget one!
