Hi folks I recently bought a 640m and am contemplating whether or not I should call and get a replacement due the screen. However i'm not too sure whether my screen has something wrong with it or not. Well compared to other notebook screens iv had this one definitely behaves differently. For example:
1) I can't see detail in all areas of the screen unless I move my head around to view at different angles.
2) the screen just seems really bright or something and colors are sorta faded..
3) when watching scenes of movies that have dark backgrounds the "brightness" sort of washes out the picture and makes it difficult to see detail..
I have the samsung panel (sec4457). Can I expect better picture with a different panel? Can calibrating the one I have help much?
Anyways I took a bunch of pics in the dark for yall to see:

Is light leakage really the issue with my monitor?
Depending on the exposure settings on a camera the light leakage can appear as bad as you want to make it look. When I exposed at a level that seemed about right for a still from a movie and compared that same exposure of a black background (pics 21 vs. 15) the light leakage seems minimal..
I don't know how useful the pictures are. There are 43 pics. Replace the "-" with a / to make it a fraction.. so 1-50 sec is really 1/50 sec ie. one fiftieth of a second.
pics 01-15 are take of the 640m with a blank screen saver. In the background is a dell 2007wfp monitor.
pics 16-28 are of a still from a movie
pic 29 is the vista desktop
pics 30-35 are of the contrast test pic from http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
pic 36 is a pic of the gamma test at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
pics 37-43 are of canon eos-1d mark III samples from http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos1dm3/..._sample-e.html
thanks for any help![]()

8 million post on this topic. It dosn't have the greatest diffuser (the lcd screen is pretty slim).
From what I could tell from your pics, it looks fine. Problem is you need pictures with indoor light and lighted objects around the laptop for reference. -

The smaller the screen the tighter the viewing angles, thats just the nature of the beast. My first M1210 had a samsung panel, and I found it far superior to the AUO I have now. You could try to replace it, but be warned, its highly difficult to request a certain make of screen, Dell will send you whatever is first at hand, the only exception to this I've heard of is after many returns.

And again, personal preference. No panel is perfect.
My first run AUO looks amazing! -
I have an AUO and got ZERO leakage.
