If being offered XP only causes a compatibility error with me not being able to get bluetooth in my 1500 regardless how much I ask, can I request no OS so that i could get bluetooth with no compatibility warning?

Regardless if you are getting a compatibility warning, ALWAYS place new orders over the phone. They give you better service, oftentimes better pricing, and can override such compatilibity errors. But the simple answer to your question, is no - you cannot buy a system with no OS :)

well, it depends on which country you are ordering from. Here, in india, there is a Vostro 1500 N series system, which comes with FreeDOS installed(NO xp or vista or any bloatware). Call up Dell in your country and ask if they have such an option.

Yes you can.. or at least a business can.

Last year I ordered two rack-mount Poweredge 850 servers for a company that wanted only Windows XP Pro on them (they don't sell the 850's with XP Pro). I had to go through a Dell Rep to do it, but he easily removed the OS from the order and sent it on it's way. There was a blurb about not supporting anything other than server versions on the machines, but they came with no OS at all, and all the utilities to install another operating system on the raid drives.

So.. the answer is YES you can, but you will need to do it through a Dell Rep, and possibly order it through the business guys.

    Hope that helps.

You can't. Well, I couldn't when I ordered my D630. I even asked them not to install the OS, but they couldn't do that either.

Yes, you said that in another thread where I said that...of course you can get rackmount servers with no OS, these are not rack mount servers! So...the answer TECHNICALLY is YES you can request no OS through DELL, but this isn't production equipment and is a LAPTOP...you CANNOT get it without an OS <_<

Have you tried using the business sales department to get a laptop without an OS? Call a business rep and see what they say, tell them you have specific needs for your laptops. Hell.. ask them if they can give you ubuntu, it's a free OS, then you can just wipe it off.

As was explained to me by several reps, the OS is needed in order to test the system.

Ya, I agree with asking the Business sales guys since my laptop is a Vostro, but I also understand that, like Olive said, the OS is probably needed to test the system. But then i could just ask them for UBUNTU. The reason I want to do this is because the Vostro on discount in Canada is only available with XP and then the Bluetooth 355 module causes an incompatibility error that scares the CSRs so they say they can't give it to me. I ask if they can gice the the most basic Vista edition since it is the same price as XP on Dell's site but they say they can't either. They are so stubborn its frustrating. I told them I am aware of the compatibility issue but Dell has a support page that offers a fix for XP that makes the 355 bluetooth module work, yet they still refuse. Any suggestions?
