    Hey all,

Really REALLY thinking about ordering an i9300 from dell, but i have one possible concern, is the size of a 17" unit going to be too much more of a problem compared to a 15.4" unit??? To me, it seems the a mere 1.6" total wouldn't b a huge problem, but i've never owned either, so what do ya'll think? Also, while we're on the subject, I'm possibly considering Sager, HP, and Compaq as well, so how do you i9300 owners out there honestly think of the build quality of your dell? I've heard the Sager especially is built quite solidly, so how is the i9300 measuring up? Thanks a ton for the help guys!

Well the 9300 is the best bang for the buck. It was as much as my 8600 and thats a 15.4inch. The 9300 is probaly when of dells most poplular notebook and its suprisingly built well. You shouldnt have any problems with it.

Awesome, thanks man. However, i just read some reviews relating to some issues with the LCD display, specifically referring to light bleed at the bottom of the screen. Anyone know any truth to this matter, and if so, is it only on certain variations of the available LCD types, or on all of them. Thanks again everyone!

Well when your ordring, try to get the samsung screens becuase they have always been better than the LG's. Also, there is light leakage on basically every computer.

You will find mild light leakage commonly on many different LCDs. As this is a 17" you do have a slightly more chance of seeing light leakage on this but don't hold your purchase to that. One thing i've learned is we can't live by "what ifs".

But if your not satisfied, send it back for a full refund.

Every laptop will have it's pitfalls and once in a while a lemon will pop up. Just have to hope for the best mate.

Heh, very astute observation Momo, lol! And yea, this one fact will not be the determining point on my purchase, and i really do think the added power of the nvidia 6800 vs the ati x700-loaded machine from Sager i was thinking about is going to seal the deal for me. Looks like Dell's gonna b makin some money from me soon. Thanks so much for all the help everyone, its made this alot easier.

No its not a problem, in fact having the 17 inch screen is.......GREAT!!, its only an inch wider and half an inch deeper than a 15.4 inch lappy, thats not alot of extra space and you'll appreciate the bigger screen. At first when I opened the box I thought WOW, this thing is big, but now I look at other lappies with 15.4 or less and say, THANK GOD I GOT THE 17 inch screen!!, I carry mine to work all of the time, no problems carrying it around and i use the dell case with shoulder strap. Its a great lappy!! dont let the seemingly large size get you down, check the specs against the inspiron 6000 in regards to its dimensions.

Build quality is very good, magnesium alloy in the chassis and lcd lid, no flexing in the lcd lid like the sony's compaqs, toshibas and Hps of the world, The build quality of the 9300 exceeded my expectations and almost as good as an Ibm Thinkpad which in my opinion has always been the best quality build anywhere.

I would give you a different opinion on the size. You may go to a Dell Kiosk or retailers (for similar spec's) and see it for yourself. IMHO, I came from using the HP Pavilion zd7000, 17" WXGA+, and hated its weight. Now I'd rather have a lappy weighing between 4lbs to 6.5lbs (if used with backpack). Finally, it'd depend on your preference of portability or else.

If you're deciding between two different sizes, you probably owe it to yourself to check them out at the Dell kiosk at a mall. The one here didn't have the 9300, but it had the XPS M170, which is the same size. My own impression was that the Inspiron 6000 was larger than I realized.

Ya, if you are not familiar with the size, try to get a first hand look at the machine before purchasing. Often times a person will change their minds once they have seen the machine in front of them. You don't want to be doing that once it is delivered! ;)
