I was looking for an AC adapter for my E5420 on Ebay but place the order by mistake, here is the product page and following is basic spec:

    AC Input Rating: 100-240V ~ 1.5A 50/60 Hz
    Output Volts: DC 19.5V
    Output Amperes: 4.62A
    Max. Output Power: 90W
    Certificate Approvals: CE-RoHS-FCC

I tried to contact seller to cancel the order but failed.

Then I found another item on Ebay that sells the correct adapter:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-ADAPTER-...177?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58b8d27869

    and this is the spec
    • Input: AC 100-240V, 50-60Hz
    • Output: DC 19.5V 90W 4.62A
    • Smart surge short circuit protection
    • High quality UL SA CE RoHS approved

I compare two items and it looks each may use for different model but the spec are pretty much the same, even the certificate

So I wonder if the AC adapter are compatible on these two models?

    Thanks

Yes, it will work. The nice thing about Dell is that the power adapters are cross-compatible across just about all of their laptops (including Alienware), as long as the wattage is sufficient to power the machine.

With Dell, when you have differences in the numbering scheme in the tens digit:
    E54 10 or E54 20

... then it is indicative of a minor refresh to that laptop. Typically, this means that Dell jsut put the newest generation of Intel processor in that laptop, and kept everything else the same.

So yes, you'll be fine. Most likely, the E5420 is such a new laptop, that the eBay seller didn't have a chance to update their listing yet.
