It's about time I retired my D600. I've been looking at the Latitude ATG- the sturdier design, SSD option and bright screen appeals to me. Plus, I still have many Latitude accessories lying around...
I read Andrew's review, plus saw that great side by side photo of the ATG with a T43 on a rooftop, outdoors. I couldn't see any reflections on the ATG screen.
What I can't figure out for sure is if the ATG's screen is Glossy or Matte? I'd really prefer a matte screen. I personally find glossy screens somewhat distracting when indoors.
The Dell website verbage says it's got a "special non-reflective coating".
Yet on another review I read ( TrustedReviews.com, p2) said:
I dunno: Looking at Andrew's review photos on this site doesn't LOOK like a glossy coating. Anyone know for sure what the deal is? Glossy? Matte?

The screen on the ATG according to dells web sit is a 14.1 inch, 500 nit Outdoor-viewable LCD. It is non glossy as a glossy coating would make it much harder to see in sunlight. Besides none of the latitudes have glossy screens, thats just something Dell doesn't do on the business notebook end.

I understand it's got a special coating.
But what IS this special coating? Is it similar to what you find on prescription glasses or camera optics, which gives reflections a purplish tint?
I'm concerned about annoying reflections in an indoor environment. My LCD monitor at work is rated at 500 nits like the ATG, and looks great. But it's got a traditional matte finish. -
I have the ATG, it is not a matte finish like my Thinkpad or HP. It has a glass surface to protect the lcd screen, but it has an anti-reflective coating so it is not as glossy as the typical glossy screens (no color effect on the anti-reflective coating). With the intense brightness, I don't notice reflections. This screen rocks.
Is the Dell ATG screen Matte or Glossy?
