I am going to get the Inspiron 6400 with 2GB of 667Mhz RAM.

    1. Before I do, is it worth it to get the 667Mhz or should I just sitck with the 533Mhz? I know the FSB is 667Mhz on the T7200, so I figured why not utilize it.

    2. Also, will this thing operate stupid fast anyways with just the 1GB of 533Mhz RAM? Is it stupid to get the 2GB of 667Mhz?

    Thanks.

The difference between 667 MHz and 533 Mhz, is very little. The lantency on the 667 MHz RAM is more, so it evens out with its freqiuency, and ends up being about as fast as standard 533 MHz. The difference between 1 GB and 2 GB, won't really be felt in Windows. If you game alot, then the difference will be massive. For example, Battlefile 2/2142 uses a lot of RAM, and if you have 1 GB, it is certainly the bottleneck. Hope this helps.

I read the thread about the 667 being only as fast as the 533 and it was very interesting. With regards to multitasking (IE,music, photoshop editing, bluetooth, etc...), is it worth it to get the 2GB?

Well, the price of the extra RAM is important. If from the manufacturer, then it will normally cost quite a bit, but I think some manufacturrs give the RAM at quite resonable prices. Most of the applications you have mentioned, don't require a mssive 2 GB, but Photoshop editing may. For that reason, it may be helpful to go for the extra RAM. Bear in mind, that if you configure a notebook with 1 GB, then the RAm will be divided into two modules, with 512 MB densities each.

For the Dell I am looking at, it will be 1 DIMM Socket of 1GB 553Mhz which will give me the option to easily upgrade. I think I am leaning towards 2GB because I also use CAD software as well as the full adobe suite.

2GB is definitely good to have with Vista on the horizon, but 1GB is still quite sufficient for most work. As Zero has already mentioned there is not much of a difference between 533 and 666
