In Sweden (where Dells site *REALLY* suck) you only have the option so choose between with regards to the XPS 1730:

    Intel® CoreTM 2 Extreme-processor X7900 (2,80 GHz)
    Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo-processor T7700 (2,40 GHz)

Where the X7900 is about $US1000 more expensive than the T7700....is it really worth that much extra? I will mainly use this laptop (kind of) for serious software development, but occationally I would want to play some FPS games also if I have the time for it.

The T7800 is mentioned in the marketing material in Sweden, but not possible to select when it comes down to configuring...again, www.dell.se *REALLY* sucks. According to the same site, it is not possible to select a 808.11n wireless card when you select the X7900, is this really true (from a technical point of view)? Even more amazing, you can chooose the 802.11n option only as a company, not as a consumer.

    T7700 is fine.

The T7700 is a beast in itself in the home consumer mobile world. They both have 4mb cache so your paying for an extra 400mhz accross both the cores which is not worth it.

I personally went for the T7500 (4mb) and even then the T7250 (2mb) would have been fine but I opted for extra cache.

Try phoning up they usually give more options which aren't avaliable on thier website. ALWAYS PHONE.

    Hope this helps.

It used to be true with Dell (and most other manufacturers as well) that you should always go for the second best option for things like this, and it seems to be true still. The price/performance of the top CPU etc is always very bad.

Phone would normally be ok, but as a company customer, I would want to buy this year, and today is sunday, and tomorrow is new year eve...no luck. Anyone know if you can change an order after it has been submitted, but before it has been built? Then I could place the order now, and make some changes to it in a few days.

I think they cancel you current order and then resubmit it with the changes you've made. Maybe somebody else wishes to elaborate who has had a change of heart???

i have t7700 in same laptop-it is unbelievable! unbelievable gaming performance and stays very cool-x7900 is quite pricey-i dont think it is worth it-go for SSD for that price if you really want power for fast loaidng times
