Okay, so I called Dell today wanting to cancel my Studio 17 order. I have done this before because I couldn't make up my mind on configuration options. Anyways, I asked for the order to be cancelled, the rep. I think did it but a couple of the times on my cancelled orders it says "Changed", but on the "Recent Order Status" main page of "My Account" it says "Cancelled".
So while a few orders have showed being cancelled and others being changed, do the so called "changed" orders get put aside until I configure a new laptop with different specifications? Like, I had the Studio 17 cancelled because I wanted to place a new order online as I told the rep., it shows up "cancelled" but also as "changed", so do they set this Studio 17 aside until I change my configuration options and use the same chassis and all that was being worked on before I cancelled it OR start from scratch?
Or, do they just start with a new kit of material and not use my pre-existing Studio 17 order?
Lastly, say for instance that instead of cancelling an order you do change an option like bump the RAM from 2GB to 3GB, will the production use the exact same unit they were working on before or start from scratch?
Something that has been bothering me...![]()

... bump ...

Who knows. I just canceled a 37 inch TV order from buy.com (took them 8 days to process the order and they still can't figure out how to charge my card). They said it takes them 2 business days to cancel an order that never has even been charged to my card yet which seems to me ridiculous. Other places remove the order instantly if it's still processing. Have you tried calling them?

No, what I meant was, today I cancelled my order with Dell, the guy cancelled it for me, but one section said it was "cancelled" while another place for the order said "changed". It looks cancelled because the e-mail I got said I would receive a new e-mail for the new order, never got one because I cancelled the order.
What I wanted to know is, if an order is "changed" and the laptop is in actual production, do they scrap the laptop and start from scratch with a new one or take the original one and modify it by pulling it apart for the changes? -
Hey,
What does your order status online say today?? Reason I ask is that when I originally placed my order for my 1530 ~ and I ended cancelling that one for a few reasons ~ it was showing the same way as you put it! But then by the next day, the status was changed to *cancelled*.
I think the best thing for you to do, would be to contact Dell directly and ask them about this. Since you cancelled and did not reorder a new one, the e-mail you have should state cancelled with the appropriate case number!!
Also, if an order is changed (cancelled), and you reorder ~ The production process starts all over. They do not take the one that was in production for you, and modify that.
I'm sure others will chime in on w/thoughts and suggestions.
Hope that helps!

Hey Cin', yeah, it still says it has been "cancelled" on my account main page, but when I click on the order number, it shows "changed". Honestly, I have done this several times because I keep finding different configurations to go with, and most say "cancelled" on the main account page and then I click the order number and it says "changed". I didn't receive an e-mail for all the cancelled/changed orders though. But all were still cancelled when I checked my account.
But you did answer my question, and that was if Dell took a cancelled/changed order in production (being made) and started back at square one with the same system you ordered and just opened it up and modified it.
I kinda knew they were going to start the production all over from scratch instead of using the same one you ordered if cancelled/changed, but didn't know for SURE.
How do you know if I may ask? I am not doubting you, just wondering... -
Well, mainly from my own experience, listening to others, and talking on the phone with the Dell rep's.
Like I said when I cancelled my very first order with Dell, (because of one change ~ which did not affect the build at all), they still had to start *fresh* with a *brand new order, and build*.
And, later when my new order was in the build process, Dell had to cancel that order, and *refresh* with a brand new one! This was due to a part being on back order. In this case, I was a tad irritated at that time..but what can you do? You deal with it, and try to work something out that will come out positive for you in the end!
Hope that helps,

Is the order actually cancelled?
