I have a XPS M1530 and it has the new HDMI out put and I have an older 36" Toshiba tube tv! Yes an old boob tube! I was wondering if there is a cable that I could get that is HDMI on one end and RCA on the other so I can hook up my laptop to the TV to watch Videos or TV shows I have on my hard drive?
If not what types of streaming media centers are there that I could add to my home network?

You can use S-VIdeo to RCA maybe.

HDMI is a high def ouput and RCA is standard def so I doubt they are compatible together,

I don't want to sound completely stupid but does S-Video handle both video & audio?
If it just does video I guess I would also have to run audio from the headphone jack to rca as well for sound?

    S-video only handles videos

You need to purchase the cables for audio as well. hence the name s-video.

HDMI is the only cable doing audio + video :)

RCA is 3 colors cables right? The yellow is video and 2 others are for sound

NO, don't buy the first VGA to S-Video/RCA adapter. They are not compatible with all VGA cards nor TVs. I had no luck with that on my M1330 and old CRT TVs (tried 3 TVs). Besides, why bother with a VGA adapter when you already have a S-Video out ??

Just buy a simple S-Video to RCA adapter like this, for video. And a Y cable like outkastland posted.

Explaining a bit more, HDMI is a digital format, not analog like RCA or even S-Video. You can't convert it with cables.

If you really want to do it and want to spend the money, you can do it with something like this: http://www.av-sales.co.uk/HDMI-VGA-CONVERTER-139-.htm

The S-Video and Y cables mentioned should cost about $10.

Considering the m1330 doesn't have an HD drive and he has an older TV, it's a non issue.
