I'm still trying to decide on a laptop. I can get good deals on Dells through education discounts, but that 8600GT is holding me back. Since the laptop will be used for gaming, I just can't justify buying one with an 8600. So I've been looking around. The warranty on the laptop is almost as important to me as the compnents. A 3 year warranty is a must, as is accidental damage coverage. In my experience with my previous laptops, that warranty almost always gets used.

But I have yet to find a company that provides a better warranty than Dell. You can get their laptops with 3 or 4 years of both normal warranty and accidental damage coverage. I can almost justify buying the hideously overpriced M1730 just because of those warranties. Does anyone know of any company that can beat Dell's warranties?

Who told you that? People have had their motherboards and even their whole computers replaced through Complete Care.

See that seems like a damn good deal to me. The current Compaq I'm using right now was repaired/replaced after I spilled coffee on it. That was 2.5 years into the 3 year accidental damage warranty. The computer was completely destroyed, everything was damaged/destroyed. (It was an entire large cup of coffee) Nothing worked. I sent it in, and they pretty much gave me a new laptop under the accidental warranty policy. That is just an all around good deal. An initial $300 saved me $1000 on a new laptop.
