    Hi,

rather, what I mean is ... how much would it cost (and what would i need to do ) to get a dell laptop with the above screen res ... I can't seem to find any on the dell site that offer that option?

not overly bothered about other specs, stabdard dell studio 15-type would do.

    anyone help?

Why would you want that horrible 5:4 resolution? You're not going to find any modern laptop with a 4:3 screen, and certainly not any with 5:4 either.

    why?

Well, it would be a desktop replacement and I',m used to that res.

What would you suggest as an alternative res then?

16:9 or 16:10 are the big players right now. on a 15" it will be 16:9 most probably. You can check out your options on the dell website.

Those kinds of aspect ratios are no longer available in laptops. Even desktop monitors with that ratio are very rare now if not impossible to find.

I don't think any laptop was ever made with that res.

Your best bet is to get a 1920 x 1080 screen and use the extra width for whatever....

my top of the line (at the time lol) monitor for my gaming desktop I built in 2004 is 5:4/1280x1024. It's a Hyundai Imagequest L90D+ and I love it. Plus I'm used to it, it's the main desktop monitor I've used for the past 6 years. Although 5:4 isn't the fad anymore, there are still LOTS of 5:4 monitors made. I wouldn't mind a widescreen desktop monitor, but I would be hard pressed to go below 1024 vertical resolution. 1280x800 is positively retarded. I don't read web pages and documents and excel charts freaking sideways. I need page LENGTH not width. What am I going to do with 1440x900?! The only "in" resolutions that still give you 1024 or higher is 1680x1050 and 1920x1080. But those are generally gigantic due to the wide screen that people who don't game or use their laptops for movie watching alot will find useless. This whole 16:9 trend sucks..

I hear you, 16:10 is all right with me because it makes laptops smaller (there's nothing to fill up the space created by the fullscreen LCD, the keyboard and touchpad aren't that tall), but 16:9 in non-consumer laptops is ridiculous.

1440x900 on 14" and 1680x1050 on 15" are excellent if you can still find them (hint: Latitude E6500 in Dell Outlet, better hurry...the E6510 is 16:9). Going from my D610 with 1400x1050 to my D620 (and now D630) with 1440x900 was annoying to say the least, but the "smaller" size of the laptop does make up for it. If you really need pixels, 1920x1200 on 15" is an option, but I must warn you. My Precision M70 had that screen, and text is REALLY small and can cause eyestrain, but it is indeed very impressive to open up one of my Visio drawings and be able to see so much.

It looks more like there are a couple Dell monitors with a couple accessories... and then a ton of units and products from other manufacturers.

But right. Not that rare. I'm still dual-screening a Sony 5:4 and a Samsung 4:3 on my desktop setup, and my workplace has a bazillion of 'em.
