Is there a path to RAID 0 for a Dell 1720?

I have a 1720 on its way with dual HD. Now I read that the 1721 can support RAID 0, but the 1720 can't.

Is there a hardware path? It seems that the Intel chip set supports RAID ), 1, and I can download Intel Matrix Storage Manager from the Dell site, but is it true that the 1720 BIOS won't support it?

What about a software path, through upgrading to Vista Business or Ultimate?

When this lappy arrives, I was planning on reinstalling Vista to get rid of bloatware, so that would be the time.

RAID is not something you're going to get through software. If the 1720 and 1721 share the same motherboard, you might be able to get a BIOS update for the 1720, but most companies make RAID capability a selling point, so I wouldn't count on it.

I cancelled the 1720 and have ordered a 1721. It has a checkbox option to install 2x160 Gig RAID 0 HD.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for high tech. Letting order stand, but seems like (a) hard drive read/write will speed up about twofold; (b) who cares, overall system performance increase small, like maybe 5-10%; and (c) there will be a penalty in heat output.
