I just got my new D830 and I love it. IMO better than my D820 in construction.

I am wondering if there is any real advantage/reason to do a fresh reload? From what I can tell there is no bloatware to speak of that I wouldn't install anyway. If it helps or makes a difference my version of vista is VISTA Business.

I find reinstalling quite useless when you're hard pressed to find crapware.

I'd say keep it as it is.

Kinda useless but I did it anyway. I like to get to know my notebook and what drivers do what. I usually find it takes 2-3 fresh installs before you really get to know your system.

Format and reinstall are must since dell still hides crapware on your computer

This is interesting, but it would be great if you can tell us either where they hide the crapware - if you've found it - or why you think there is hidden crapware if you haven't found any. Thanks.

To answer the OP, it depends on how your system is running, fresh out of the box. When I received my D830, I immediately had boot up, video and performance problems - fresh out of the box. So I tried a reformat, and I must say, I did notice a slight decrease in the times for cold boot, hibernate and coming out of hibernation. Performance also went up, slightly. But then, the performance you get will also depend on your process of reinstallation. Follow the guides and install the drivers in the correct order. And finally, don't forget to use Windows Update, particularly for the most recent Performance and Reliability Updates.
