1.) not really. The 640m is offered in small business, while the E1405 is offered in Home. Same hardware/specs, just different numbering.

2.)I'm not sure of your question. When you customize a laptop, the very first choice that you get is to select what processor you want. All of those are Core Duo, with the exception to the lower pre-configured systems which usually you get a choice of Core Solo. It actually state Core Duo/Core Solo, so make sure that your selection is Core Duo. Core Duo ranges 1.66 to 2.0ghz which is the clock speed. The fastest process is 2.0ghz while the slowest is 1.66 for Core Duo. Most users choose 1.83 cause you won't notice that much of a difference between 1.83ghz and 2.0

    Hopefully that helps.

The "Centrino" moniker is just a criteria that you have 3 Intel components: An Intel Pentium/Core Processor, Intel Chipset, and Intel Wireless Card. If you have those, it's a Centrino. I guess the new terms would be Centrino Duo, for systems with a Core Duo processor; and plain old Centrino, for Core Solo/Pentium M processors.

The processor and chipset are obviously Intel, so the only real concern is which wireless card to pick. Choose the Dell-branded card and it doesn't qualify as a Centrino, choose the Intel Wireless card (3945) and it is a Centrino. Nothing to really sweat about.

You need to select the Intel wireless card to have the Centrino branding. I would suggest getting the Intel card because they are very good with battery life.
