Edited: Ok, seeing as the $350 coupon doesn't work with the EPP discount, this is what I'm getting with the DellU coupon I'll have coming to me shortly:
Inspiron 1420
Ruby Red
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440x900)
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
160GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
CD/DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
6-cell Primary Battery and 9-cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
Integrated High Definition Audio
3 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day
Price: $1,243.20 (after 12% and $200 off)
A lot of these things are a bit extraneous for me... I had it configured for the $350 coupon before I found out it wouldn't work. I'll be updating this with what I actually want/need shortly, maybe tomorrow. Still I think this is a pretty sweet deal...
Edit again: Alright, here's what I'm getting with my actual wants/needs:
Inspiron 1420
Ruby Red
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440x900)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
CD/DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
6-cell Primary Battery
Integrated High Definition Audio
3 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day
Price: $1,029.12 (after 12% and $200 off)
So basically it comes down to about $200 for the dedicated graphics, better hard drive, and extra battery. I don't need any of them, exactly, but I just wonder if that's too good a deal to pass up. Bleh...

350 off coupon ain't working for me on the dell university section.
how do you get 12% + $350 off? -
That is an amazing price
-
Yeah, so, it looks like this isn't going to work. The $350 coupon is getting eaten in the EPP site for me. Are we sure that the $200 still works with the EPP discount? Because then those two together would about break even with the $350, I think.
-
I was going to say...the $350 coupon is Home and Home Office only...but you CAN use the $200 University Discount with EPP...
-
What? Was this just a theoretical guesswork playing with a calculator?
-
That was when I thought the $350 coupon wouldn't work yet, seeing as it's not 7:00 am on July 28th yet, and I didn't know it wouldn't work through EPP.
Yeah, let's not crucify the new guy? I'm editing, again, now... -
How are you using the $350 coupon + EPP? I cant get the coupon to work on the University site (only the $200 one works).
-
It doesn't, my mistake, I jumped the gun.
Sorry for getting any hopes up, guys. -
Well, if you were willing to spend the extra dough, I'd get a m1330.
-
I can't configure an M1330 with the LED screen for anything close to even the $1,243 price, and the LED screen is the big selling point on the M1330. Otherwise, I'm spending several hundred dollars more for a smaller screen and a pound off the weight - not really worth it, to me.
-
For comparison's sake, this is what I'm getting for the M1330 with similar specs:
Dell XPS M1330
Crimson Red edit
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
Standard Display with 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
High Definition Audio 2.0
3 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day
1Yr LoJack for Laptops Theft Protection
CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW Drive)
37Whr Lithium Ion Battery (4 cell)
IntelJ 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card
Price: $1,490.72 (after 12% EPP discount)
Mind you I'd still need to upgrade the RAM on my own, which would cost some money, and this is without the LCD, which is a big selling point of the M1330. It just doesn't make sense to me; am I not seeing something? -
For what it's worth, I'd rather have a 14.1" screen with normal backlighting than a 13.3" screen with LED backlighting. (That's just me though.)
The small, thin, and light thing with the M1330 is really nice though. -
Yeah, I'm worried that the 13.3" screen would be too small for me, and I don't know if the weight is worth the $200+. It's not like I'm a little guy, so 5.5 pounds on the Inspiron shouldn't kill me.
-
Trust me. Go with the 1420. I do not think it's worth the extra money to get an even smaller screen and to reduce the weight by a little bit.
Is there any way I can say no to this 1420?
