I ordered a Dell Studio 15 about 12 hours ago. Since Dell doesn't indicate the 4 digit model during the order stage, I thought I was ordering the 1555, but I realized a few hours later it was the 1536. Unfortunately customer service was closed by then so I figured I'd call today.
Well the status has now changed to "in production"...not good. Anyone have any success in cancelling an "in production" order? I'm sure this will take some creativity.
EDIT: Success!
I originally called the Cancellation Department # twice (1-800-247-2076, option 2) and spoke with two different reps. Both told me that even though the order was placed last night, the fact that it is already "in production" means that it can no longer be cancelled.
On my third call, I asked to be connected to a supervisor. I was put on hold for about 5 minutes, after which the rep came back and said he spoke with his manager, who told him that they could submit a cancellation request to the factory. If the request was granted, I would see an update on my order status page within 4 hours, or I could call back in 4 hours to check (he gave me a case #). I just checked online (it's been less than an hour) and it's already showing as cancelled.

I suggest that you call them and try it right now - the longer you wait may well increase the difficulty of cancelling your order. Good luck.

Yeah they're not open till 10AM CST on Sundays so I can't call for 3 hours

Your lucky you were able to get that cancellation! Normally they don't let you cancel once in Production!
Nice!!

Theres always ways to cancel even if you are in production. In this case, since you thought it was a different model, you can threaten them with a credit card dispute and misleading advertising. Just think outside the box, and they will cancel it.

Usually you are not charged until the order is shipped. They take a "preauthorization" on your CC before the order is started to be sure the funds are available. You are fully charged when the order is about to ship.
Until recent (last 3 months or so), you used to be able to cancel your order up until it was about to go in to the shipping stage. Now, they have decided to make it more of a "hassle" for us, their customer.
Either way OP, was able to cancel his order and that was a good result.

Is there any way to cancel an "in production" order?
