I just wanted to know how good these are, I'm going to be a college student, I don't need gaming capabilities but I will be doing a lot of browsing and downloading. Mostly just for class and stuff, I've heard nothing about these laptops and can't find any reviews on them. Any opinions?

I wouldn't go with the 2200. Its just a basic laptop for those who are going to be doing very mundane tasks. If you were someone who only would use it to check your email once a day and do a little bit of web browsing, then it would be a good notebook. Since you are going to be taking notes and burning, you'll probably want to look at something different.
I'm not sure what your budget is, but you might want to check the 6000. Its pretty popular in college, and you should be able to configure it for a low price since you don't need gaming specs as well as Dell Outlet has some good deals right now. You might want to also check with your university and see if they have a contract with Dell, so you can get additional discounts. -
Being Canadian sucks we don't get the deals you guys get for Dells

I agree with Southern Girl, the 2200 isn't great, it's slow and it will frustrate you. Pay a little more and get a much better machine. Fill out the FAQ so we can help you choose which Dell model to get. Do you plan on carrying it around a lot? In that case, the 600m or the 700m would be killer. If you plan on keeping it stationary and want to do gaming, then there's the 6000 or the 9300. Good luck, and hopefully we will be able to be of further assistance. -
Why don't you tell us your budget, so maybe we can recommend you a better notebook?

yes, its a lousy system, i had ordered one after seeing a promotion in the paper. My total was around 1,000. Thing is, i confirgured a dell 6000 for around 1100, but the dell was worth nearly 800 dollars more because of the $750 off $1499 systems coupons so now i have a 6000 with a dvd burner, wide screen 15. 4 as well as a much higher resolution. Bigger battery with around 6 hours vrs the 2200 with only 3.5 hours, bigger harddrive, more memory, better speakers, more ports and a fair gaimng video card The keyboard is much larger for the footprint of the base of the 6000 is wider. Also the niffty media buttons which i find useful as i love my music (already put nearly 43 gigs of music on my hard drive). And by the way dell offers a comparison of its laptops in the dell brochure/catolog. i think i still have mine, so i can scan a pic of the page if you would like, but it gave the 2200 fair in nearly every category( categories were web browsing, movie viewing, music battery life and a few more i cant remember, and the 6000 got exellent in every category exept for gaming, for the only exellent in gaming went to the xps2. Just wait for a coupon and get a better system via the 6000 take off the coupon amount, and it probably wont cost too much more, as long as you dont get too upgrade happy.....
and the reason you cant do this with the 2200 becuase even if you were to upgrade everything to the fullest extent the machine wont come out to enough to qualify for the coupon.
btw if you do go with the 6000 as a portable machine, and not a system that sits at your desk at home, spring for the 9 cell battery, its worth the extra cost. -
jesus cristos...43 gigs of music?!?!?!?!?!? I agree the 6000 is a great deal for the quality and especially the price. I got the 6000D for much of the same reasons as you but with a little bit of light gaming and I am very very happy.

I don't see anything wrong with a 2200--it generally sells for a couple hundred dollars less than a similarly configured 6000, plus it's lighter. On the downside, the build quality probably isn't as good.

brandonblake "jesus cristos...43 gigs of music?!?!?!?!?!?"
dam, i cant tell if you just jealous, or really jealouslol
btw i have another 60 something gigs but unfortunetly i have no room left on my drive.
Henry su..........its cost less cause theres alot less..........besides, last time i chexcked it was the dell 6000 that got 4/5 stars from laptop mag, and pc magazine voted it the best laptop in its category....(this was two months ago so there may be some slight changes).........meanwhile the 2200 has not recieved any praises and rcognition. -
there hasn't even been a review on the 2200. I would recommend the 2200 to someone like my grandparents who have no idea how to run a computer but need internet...just my opinion.
I only have 10gigs....really sad part-->they are protected files too. -
lol, my grandmother even has a better lappie than the 2200, shes currently the proud owner of an xps2.........................just kidding, she only has a dell lattitude X1, a cool as hell lookin 2.5 lb super ultraportable which cost 1,800. She travels alot on planes so she needed a laptop too.
Is there anything wrong with the 2200?
