I am a very light gamer. I do occasional cd/dvd burning, watch movies.

Is this 1520 configuration and price a good deal?

I think that's a great configuration, it will allow for light gaming. For under $1,000 you're really not going to beat that.

You may want to spec out a Dell business Vostro 1500 (same thing as the Inspiron 1520), depending on the config it might be cheaper (choose the cheapest one of their value packages). it's been said that they don't care if you actually have a business.

Yeah Vostro will save you about $300. If Vista Premium is a big concern for you, just call Dell up and ask them to upgrade you.

it seems like you might be interested in the 1420 more since I believe it is cheaper than the 1520, plus it is lighter and everything. i wouldn't recommend a 1520 unless you opt for better graphics.

Try a dell vostro 1500. Don't go crazy upgrading everything, cause then the value slowly decreases.

A similiarly built Vostro 1500 costs $1038 before tax. It isn't worth it if you do this much upgrades. Also as someone as said, I recommend the 14.1 inch laptop instead of the 15.4 if you aren't going to opt for the 8600M GT.

Personally I went and bought basically the same laptop with a slightly slower CPU, a 9-cell battery, and the GeForce 256 MB 8600M card. Honestly I find it's a great laptop for the price (I paid $1385 Canadian after taxes and shipping). The only thing is if you decide to install XP (much better for gaming unless you need DirectX 10) you'll most likely have to go get drivers yourself. Speaking of XP... Installing it on the 1520 was a pain in the backside, I had to change a few HDD settings in the BIOS; it kept telling me it wasn't detecting a hard drive. The only thing I'd change in your specs is the battery, if it's possible for you to upgrade, because even light gaming will tax your battery. If you plan on having the AC plugged in all the time then go for it, definitely worth the money in my opinion.
