I'm going to UCSC in the fall and I want to get a notebook that can do all the necessities, but also be able to run Source games well. Nothing really beyond Half-Life 2 though. Should I snap this up or wait a bit more? I'm not in a very big rush.

I would say that is a very good deal for the money.
-
very good
jump on it.
i had one, but just sold it.
it was a bit bulky for me.
if you don't game, you should look at the e1405.
if you do ocassionally, this should be good, but it's no powerhouse -
Yeah, I game, but I have a desktop that can run FEAR on Med/High, so I'm not looking for a powerhouse notebook. I'm also probably going to upgrade the desktop around christmas time with a Core 2 Duo e6600 OC, a new mobo and an X1900XT. Mainly for Crysis. So now I have until 9:59 PM PST to decide.
I think this is the best I can do while keeping it under a grand. And that's what I'd like to do. -
i'd recommend the e1405
the extra 1.4" is huge when carrying
i had a e1505 and my bro had e1405
although mine had the ATI gfx, i was still jealous
after all, since you have a desktop, it's a real laptop, not a desktop replacement -
My thoughts as well, I went from a 15.4 to a 14.1 and I am really glad that I did.
-
Even with a backpack or briefcase thingy it makes that big a difference?
Yeah, I know it's not a desktop replacement, but I've been gaming for 14 years now...and I can't imagine getting a computer with integrated graphics, it just goes against everything I've been taught lol. The screen size doesn't matter to me, because I'm comfortable with a 12 inch, so if a gfx card could fit in that guy I would go after it.
After configuring the e1405 to match the e1505, (processor, memory, HDD etc.) it came out to more. It was $1,151.68 -
Yeah, if you're against integrated graphics, it'd be hard to overcome. When shopping for a laptop, it's all about trade-offs. For me, I don't ever play a game on my laptop (or if I do, very basic ones). I have an Xbox and a desktop if I want to play games. My laptop is more of a general purpose machine/media (DVD-MP3)machine -- and the integrated graphics do just fine there.
Also, I'm guessing you're looking at one of the "10 days of deals" deals, eh? -
yeah, that's where I'm looking. It stacks with the deal my school has. I suppose I could wait 2 months though.
-
get the E1505 gives u a lil gaming on the GO
, nothing major thought

HP's 14" dv2000t has a Go7200 128MB option, but is more expensive than the Dell E1405:

It's a good deal. But you strongly might consider adding to your warranty. Unless you only plan on having the 1505 for a year.
It's always nice to be constantly protected with a Dell warranty. -

For the original E1705, I'd recommend a screen upgrade to WUXGA
Is this a good E1505 buy?
