What kind of games do you plan to play?
Also fill out the FAQ(or repost it) -
If you're running Vista, I'd strongly suggest you upgrade to 2GB ram.
-
well you should get a free upgrade to 2gb of ram and a 160 gb hard drive. Also are you using the dell university coupon and getting the epp discount with that price, because it seems rather expensive. And if you want to use it for gaming you definitely need to upgrade to a dedicated video card.

I do not think this is the best deal because I received a...
Dell inspiron 1520
T7300 processor
2gb ram
8600 nvidia graphics 256mb
160gb hard drive
6 cell battery
built in camera
bluetooth
wireless n card
1440x900 wide screen
dvd burner
1 year mail in service
all for $1113 plus tax - (My discounts were free 2gb ram and hard drive + $350 bucks off and free ship)
I am going back to university in the fall and the student discounts did not even come close.
Just call dell and see if you get a senior sales rep or get a hold of the xps sales office it may take you 5-8 tries.
See if they can do those discounts for you today because the coupon may not be able to be used in the tomorrow cause it expires today.
The machine I just posted will do pretty much anything, gaming and otherwise.
Hope this helps, -
not that im trying to push the vostro line or anything but you can get that laptop for about 800 or so with the vostro. Since you are getting lower-mid level stuff the vostro is cheaper. With a couple changes you can get it for $599 here

Yes the vostro line might just be what you are looking for... great specs for the average user at a great price! I totally forgot about that line when I posted before. I might have gone with the vostro line if I had not already ordered my 1520.

I am in India, and going to canda for further studies.
The dell canda site does not offer the free 2gb ram and 160gb hdd upgrade.
I spoke with one of the CSR on chat and she told me there is no such thing as student discount, which i found a little strange.
I am going to buy a laptop for the first time and not that tech savvy.
Where can i find information about the student discount on dell's site.
And regarding gaming, i am not that hard-core gamer,
I will mostly play AOE,C&C,Nfs carbon........... -
I would upgrade the ram but don't upgrade it through dell by it fom Newegg it will be cheaper
Is this a good buy........
